Oh man, that's awesome. Great work.

Thoughts: maybe stickies could be shaded differently in the list? and minor quibble but I don't get the spinning load/internet activity icon as it loads up threads?

Anyway, this'll be incredibly useful regardless, thanks!

Fantastic, well done!

Any chance of having an option to SHOW RECENT, similar to the search option?

This is the way I use reduser, just to see what people are talking about today as opposed to a specific subject.

Great job!

Great app, exactly what I've been hoping for for a long time. I'd pay happily a good deal more than .99 for these features:

- Display date of post and a tiny avatar
- Only show posts not yet read
- Option to load all posts, rather than 20 at a time
- Option to post
- Option to show only posts by a list of people
- Similar color scheme, especially the background. Otherwise colored text and graphics might look different than intended.
- Highlighting of posts made by RED people
- Support of the "New posts" feature from reduser.net

Last one being the most important one

Awesome, Tyler! I second Martin on the features, I'd pay for that.

Say, wait just a darn minute. The Apple iTunes site has the following disclaimer:

Rated 12+ for the following:
Infrequent/Mild Sexual Content or Nudity
Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes
Frequent/Intense Profanity or Crude Humor
Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drug Use or References

So what twelve year old has been sneaking onto this site talking about mild alcohol or tobacco?

Lewis-M Soucy

I think it has to do with the fact we post lots of pictures and films stills that might not be appropriate for young kids... Oh and some discussions are also sometimes well flaming... :furious3:

Great app, and yes I do occasionally wake up in the middle of the night and go check reduser in my iphone, and I am not ashamed of it.

One suggestion: Many threads on reduser are endlessly long (many many posts), and it would be really useful to have a way to navigate to the end of a thread without going through all the posts.

Anyway thanks for a great app!

Great app.

Another vote for Martin's feature requests, although I suspect that the simplified format may preclude some of them.

Most important for me would be a "load all and scroll to the end" button for long threads.

Very nice app!

A bit simplistic but therefore it runs very smoothly.

Hope you'll continue to enhance the app, but for the time being it's already a must-have iPhone app.

ARGH! I just lost my first post, so this one will be a little more succinct.

I just submitted v1.0.1 of the app to Apple for approval! Two new features have been added:

1. User login! You can now log in via the app. It doesn't support a whole lot of user-centric features yet, but it does support two big ones:

- The app now respects your thread display mode (set via the User CP here on the forums)! This means that you can now browse threads newest-to-oldest. No more tapping the "More" button a hundred times to get through Recon threads!
- The app also respects your "posts per page" setting (also set via the User CP). This means that you can adjust it (up to 40/page) and browse through threads much faster.

More features are coming in the next few weeks. To be quite honest, when I sat down today to work on the app, I didn't expect to be able to get user login implemented so easily (I was mostly going to work on some bug fixes).

2. Thread loading is now performed on a separate thread, so the UI remains responsive. Note: I still need to do this for posts, but one thing at a time, people!

Keep the feedback coming! You may not see instant results, but I do keep a list of suggestions and am working on a number of them.

Screenshots to come - probably tomorrow...

This will be fantastic and quite helpful. I am a little obsessive about tracking REDuser these days and your app had potential to save me lots of productive time by letting me cruise the board in bits and pieces when I am, otherwise not productive. (Now I can do real work when I am at my computer!!) But I have to admit, the first version really didn't work for me as I had no wany to jump right to the posts I hadn't yet read. THANKS FOR THIS UPDATE!!! I'll look forward to it.

And imagine how cool this will be when I get my iPad!!

I would love a way to get to the last page. it is needed on the long running threads... also a search by user would be very helpful.

Thanks Much

Amir, Tyler is working long and hard on an app which he is making available to us for free. Even though you may be getting impatient waiting for the Scarlet to be released, it is not appropriate to vent your frustration by calling his app useless.

Tyler,

I would think New Posts is the most important feature and should be the top of your list. I don't use this app because I always read New Posts. When you have New Posts, your app becomes very interesting and I'd pay for it then.

There's "it woulb be a better app... It's useless" and there's "I'd really love these features... Would make it more useful"...

Just basic politics/marketing/politeness/education... You get what you want when you know how to ask. I wasn't going to reply to this, but I also found that post very rude.

I hope this is a newbie mistake, but just know that this is a very friendly based forum and this community supports each other very hard. Wash your mouth and come back with a nice old fashion "sorry".

Do your homeworks then you can come back and play.

Second this. Love the idea of the app but it is pretty hard to use when I have to slog through all the old posts (10 at a time) to get to what I am looking for. Sorry to say but for now, I have given up on it.

Thanks for the posts, everyone. I was going to reply to that comment with thoughts along the same lines, but I think everyone else said it much nicer than I would have

I'm sorry to hear that, Terry. Unfortunately, as far as the "10 at a time" goes, I am limited by what the forum software allows. I was able to party work around that with the last update in that it will respect your user settings for posts/page if you log in. I am currently working on another hack (it sucks that I have to resort to hacks) that would just load all of the available pages in order. I am also trying to figure out the best way to wrangle longer posts into something more manageable.

I understand people's requests. I, too, get frustrated by having to load a hundred pages of any thread started by Jim or Jarred. I am working on it, but other things in life take priority...

I think that combined with the long thread hack you mentioned around would leave little room for complaints.

I've worked on a couple dozen apps now, and the approval time has varied across them from 2 days to 2 months. Most recently, I've been seeing about 7 or 8 day turnarounds. The last update was 5 days.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, "I have absolutely no idea."

I don't think Tyler has worked on this in awhile. But I say we set up a little donation pool, that way we can have someone put some time and effort into developing the app (and of course paying for the itunes listing as free apps have to pay to be listed on itunes)

Hey everybody. Yes, it's been a while without a peep from me. Unfortunately, I have not had very much time to work on this lately.

Ultimately, I have decided to rewrite this from the ground up. The new version will have pretty much the same functionality and appearance as the old one (at least to start), but it will have a much better backend.

You can find the code on GitHub: https://github.com/AquaGeek/CodeRED. If you're familiar with iOS development, go ahead and take a look around. The rest of the UI and the networking/parsing code should be up by the end of the week.

If you're not familiar with iOS development, hang tight. Trust me - the rewrite is for the best.

correct, it was taken down by Tyler (who made the app) because he needed to rebuild it but he also needs time to do so.

I'm currently working on a new app for reduser, i will be posting everything about in a day or so and i will give everyone the opportunity to offer up feature requests and/or say if they think something is useless

Is this still in the store? It still comes up as "not available in US store" for over a year now. Was it officially pulled?
