"Codec Error" while recording

Last night I damn near had a heart attack. Right in the middle of filming something that had taken me a week to set up, right when the light was epic in the sky, I started getting some kind of recording error that said "Codec Error" up at the top of the LCD. It would record for like 2 seconds, then give me the error, and automatically stop the recording. Thank god it went away after a reboot, or I would have been seriously F'd.

Any idea what this is?

Welcome to the club! In all seriousness this happens from time to time with RED's. No need to panic. Seems the reboot fixed your issue as it should. Remember, it's a computer and doesn't require a specific reason why it decides to tweak on you every now and again.
Unfortunately, these things always happen right when you don't want them to.

All digi cams are computers - they lock up once in a while for no understandable reason - even ENG cams.
