Hi,
it would be nice if RedOne cameras could implement film stock preset as well as keep the original footage intact if ever you are not happy and could change in postpo,so DOPs can have an idea what is going to be the output
thx

I think this has been discussed before, and its been announced that you could build a custom LUT in redcine and upload it to your camera for preview purposes. That'll be the best bet of matching a particular film-stock, and everyone will probably have different opinions as to how well it works.

also, because LUTs are inherently small files, i'm sure people will share them (or jealously guard them)

I am pretty sure that there will be third party places to buy these looks. They have been created for many post operations now, so I am sure they will be ported to the camera as well.

Hopefully, new looks and characteristics will come out of the technology rather than emulating the old.

My old saying. Want the film look. Shoot film.

perhaps Magic Bullet (Stu) might be able to come up with 25-50 different LUT's looks ?

Will this be something that would be viewable while shooting?
In other words- the camera records a RAW image - but you can monitor a selectable post filter effect? This would give those without the vision a better idea for what the final image will be?

That's one of the many beautiful things about RED. You can monitor the footage using the feel you are going for later, which will be very valuable for video village and situations where people don't understanding shooting raw (client monitors). The modifications will not be baked in however will be saved as metadata for you to reference in post.

Yes, that's exactly how RED is going to work. LUTs will probably get created in RedCine .
