Will Scarlet talk with the ZE lenses or do I have to get the ZF and adapter for my 5D?

Thanks

There's no "talking" to be done, those lenses don't have CPUs.

Aha. I meant "talk" as in actual verbal communication and text messages etc.

Actually I believe the ZE lenses do in fact have a CPU as the aperture is electronically controlled. As for Scarlet, RED has stated they intend to have electronic mounts available for Canon and Nikon, so I would expect it would communicate as necessary for aperture control and metadata

aperture control is done mechanically via a little tab sticking out in the back

No, seriously now - does a "Canon electronic mount" mean that I will be able to control aperture via Scarlet / Epic once they are out? [it sounds like it but I want to make sure....]

ZE does not have an aperture ring, the ZF does, and I am contemplating between the two.

I am buying these for my 5D and later for my Red. Can someone from Red confirm that it will be possible to control aperture thru the camera? I really don't want to buy the wrong set of lenses...

i would love to know this as well. Even if it does communicate with the lens, what will the stop increments be? Half stops, third stops?
I would also like to know if it can be done in a fluid motion or if it will click like a 5DII does.

Hi,

Why not buy the Nikon mount ones? They are cheaper and have manual aperture. Novoflex makes nice Canon to Nikon Mount converters. Also, there seem to be more Red PL to Nikon mounts out there at this point. There's no knowing for sure what red will cook up. This is what I'm buying anyway.
