Hey,
I was just wondering what is going to happen with the old Red Ones people are going to trade for the Epic discount.
I mean, if i cannot possibly get the epic or a new Red One, why not a used red one...

does anyone knows?

Thanks in advance,

Yotam Ben-Yaacov

Jim mentioned that all the really early numbers, especially his are going to a museum, as they are priceless in what the represent. My best guess for traded in r1's are that they are gonna get recycled in a manner. There is still a lot of expensive silicon in them, and a lot of materials in it can get stripped back out and put into other uses. Either put into their epic cameras are resold as raw parts for other companies. It might be how they are offsetting the costs of Epic and allowing the owner to get that trade in price.

this is actually awesome! donating "in a way" the R1 to people who need tools is pretty awesome!

and about the recycling bit... I thought thats what they are going to do... but I still hope they're going to have some kind of discounted R1s for people who need a bit more than the scarlet (although getting a scarlet was my actual plan) and cannot afford a new R1 or an Epic...
but we'll see how it goes...

i am thinking to setup a two camera shoot and drop mine from 3 stories to a concrete sidewalk and shoot it with my epics at high speed.

Funny. Please tell me that's a joke.

People seem to think that the R1s are not really good anymore...
give it to us! haha

if i had a R1, i would never throw it anywhere... I would keep this awesome thing for life people...

the RedUser community could accuse you of abusing this camera... be careful with your words dude... haha

I think that if RED sold the RED ONES as a referb used unit they are going to get WAY MORE out of that then trying to strip out parts and sell them. There is an aftermarket for some parts, but the process of desoldering, cleaning, protecting is A LOT of work. Most raw electronics businesses buy in bulk to get some of the RAW materials, but they pay based on weight mostly.

I'm sure there are a LOT of options for what they could do with them.

Sending me one would be great too! :P Hehe.

I've said this before but I predict people will be using RED-MX cameras to shoot feature films 10 years from now. It does what it does very well, accessories on the used market are a bargain and the workflow will be even better a year from now than it is now.

Benzo was talking awhile back about shooting his with a .50 caliber rifle in slo-mo on the EPIC-X. ahahhah. I think that would be the coolest thing ever.

I love how everyone refers to the current RED ONE as "old". The EPIC is great, but its not available yet! And with all the delays aren't people counting their eggs before the hatch?
