View Full Version : Red Rocket a MUST ??

I know this is going to seem like a stupid question to most, but humor me. I'm new at this.

To transfer, manipulate, "rough" edit, and copy, the digital data from a Scarlet 2/3 or a Red-One, do I absolutely have to have a Red Rocket card in my PC?

Is Red Rocket also required for Adobe CS5 to work properly?

*All I want to do with the data, once it's in the hard drive, is to copy certain scenes, put them together, reduce the quality, then transfer THAT to a DVD, to be used for reference ONLY. The original, high quality, footage, would, of course, stay in the hard drive for later use.

I am not, nor do I have any intentions, of being an editor. I will leave the REAL editing in the final production to professionals that KNOW what they are doing. What they have for their equipment is entirely up the them.

Thanks.

It's not a neccesity. But as volume ramps up, you'll miss it. But then you can afford it too...

cant't work without it anymore... think only on watching in realtime over HD-SDI and full debayer... same at transcoding...

It paid of with all of the time saved with a couple of jobs.

But it's still not compatible with any NLE's yet, right?

For an offline workflow it is absolutely not needed. I couldn't live without one . . . but that's for online stuff.

If you have a decent machine and don't want to edit with proxies (and the client won't be in the room) try 1/4 debayer Prores LT for an offline option.

Media Composer 5 will support the Rocket Card for transcodes and renders within the application.

I've been doing transcodes for every RED job this year so far. It's seems to be the best way to go. If you transfer Full Debayer 1080P at ProRes 422/HQ/4444 you can finish using these files for web/broadcast...etc. They look great!
