Hi,
I am still somewhat unclear on what the Red Super Grip will control (ie. start/stop/zoom?) and haven't heard much talked about it recently.
I assume the Super Grip goes hand-in-hand with the Red Motor...but would appreciate any info that anyone has on this.
For those budgeting for future accessory purchases :-)
Thanks,

veeery interesting..... especially with the new basic kit and one grip a question is, buy a second grip or wait for the supergrip ?
And the motors will work perfectly with Curt Von Badinsky's stuff.

Did you guys see that the Supergrip is listed for $400 in the Red store. Sounds like a steal to me.

That is about what I expected for the RED Motor. I figured $3,500 for 3 motors. So $3,750 for 3 motors is not bad at all. The VFS Impero Standard remote for the motors is only $750, but I think I will hold out for the VFS Impero Pro ($1,200).

Hey Martin nice spot. This beats Curt's estimate of three for > than $5000, though he did say we would be pleasently suprised. This awesome, so these will also be fully compatible w/ Curt's FIZ (Impero and Impero Pro) controller set up and the Mirus... this is great news for all of us. Thank God these are not C-motion or Arri prices... I could not get in the door.

Andrew

ps- Curran it seems we have similar interests... ;-)

Actually, I think I remember Curt saying they wanted to price 3 motors PLUS the remote for > $5,500, which is exactly the price it is now. But yeah, great news for all of us.

Andrew, it looks like we will both have a pretty sweet setup.

EDIT: Looks like we will both get our cameras at the same time.

Hello Red team,

Can you give us an ETA on the Red motor and is it correct it will also be possible to use a Red Motor as a manual FF also ?

Cheers,
Damien

That's right... you are right Curran on the pricing of the motors and remote. I would much rather speak up and get the correct information than stay silent and have the wrong info. Thanks.

:) We are going to have some great rigs Curran, though most of my work w/ take place in the field. I really look forward to what you are going to do especially w/ your animation background...

Yeah we do get our stuff at the same time... crazy times ahead:) ! I am sure we will be pm'ing one one another since we will have very similar set ups and challenges.

Take care Curran,

Andrew

Curran,

Do you really believe that "Film is dead"? There's a lot of bad press about Reduser.net and your signature is one of the main reasons why.

I know it sounds like a guy you don't know is coming down on you pretty hard, and I do apologize, but unless this is a religious belief you may want to consider something else to say. Believe it or not, there are quite a few people who are taking that statement at face value, and it's one of the reaons we get grief.

I am NOT SAYING it's all your fault.. God no.. I'm just putting this up there for you to think about. Film is a wonderful medium, and, just like RED will serve many uses for years to come.

Ok.. I am sorry in advance is this came off wrong, feel free to do what you wish, and I will never bring it up again.

Jay

:poster_oops:

Sorry 'bout that Jay. I was being a smartass when I made that a part of my sig. Plus I thought I was cool 'cause I made it rhyme.... :matrix:

Hey, Jay lighten up a bit... if you're going to point out that 'film is dead' which I think for 2000 of us in the next 6 months it will be... You should tell the webmaster at RED's home page to take down the Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor Writers and Directors for Crank quote who said "“Film is dead. And by the way, so is video. The word is getting out that RED is the future, but for us it is right now. After holding these bad boys in our hands and putting the cameras through the full neveldine/taylor acid test our faith in the mad scientists at RED labs is unlimited. We’re committed to RED for every project we’ve got in the pipeline.”

Now, you can continue to love records, and flatbed 35mm film editing machines (I hear Steven Spielberg still uses them)... but after seeing a better, less expensive, more portable, product with critically favorable reviews - that usually means the beginning of the end for the existing technology.

Most still cameras are now digital, like editing, and soon projection... but the writing is being put on the WEB WALL right here with every pic and movie.
2000 of us, would have spent millions of hundreds of thousands of dollars elseware - and that is a serious impact.

Oh, and Hollywood studios are not going to digital projection because it looks better than film (which 4k does), but rather for the bottom line... saving millions... and that is why mainstream film's life is nearing its end... sadly.. not really.

I don't miss paying $1 a foot for $35mm or $2000 an answer print at all! ;-)

Curran,
We've had complaints from the Goatee Owners Association of Trinidad (G.O.A.T) that unsolicited usage and publication of non sanctioned Goatee's are detrimental to their lobbying for equal rights for Goatees and their affiliated follicle permutations. The appearance of your Avatar during a recent web based fund raiser certainly raised a few 'Goatbrows' amongst our unionized patronage.

We respectfully request that your Avatar be replaced with something more in tune with your cinematographic endeavors.

Curran,

I actually deleted that post after thinking about it. It just felt too much like a slam and I did not want to come off that way.. I tend to forget how fast people move on this forum :)

I happy you were so understanding of my position. As I said, I would have respected whatever you decided to do.

As for "Lightening Up". Well, ok. But that has nothing to do with the point I was making. Disruptive technology can be just that. There are a lot of people out there that are making their living using film. They pay for their kids schools, take them to ball games, buy gifts, etc. I just want to show people that we are a group of artists who respect all forms of art, and would prefer that EVERYONE succeed in their chosen craft. I get sad whenever one technology must "die" so that another can succeed. As you can tell, I have had friends that have lost homes, wives, and even lives to the march of technology. Its fun if you are on the right side of the wave, but once it overtakes you, it can be deadly. Some may say "Well you just have to change with it!" Yes.. But that's a heartless statement devoid of understanding for men and women who have been working in the same medium for 50+ years. It gets tougher to change as you get older.

As Steve Jobs once said "This does not have to be a zero sum equation". For RED to live, film does not have to die.

Curran,

Some may say "Well you just have to change with it!" Yes.. But that's a heartless statement devoid of understanding for men and women who have been working in the same medium for 50+ years. It gets tougher to change as you get older.

As Steve Jobs once said "This does not have to be a zero sum equation". For RED to live, film does not have to die.

Hmmm.. I do not see FILM being used in still photography much... less than 1%, flatbed editing - gone - (bad Avid, bad final cut)... of course any inferior system will die in the marketplace and become collectors items...

SAVE those records, 8 track cassettes, 8mm film, 8mm video, black and white film, trs-80s, compacs... Film was great for 100 years... it was expensive, and elitist... and yes.. beautiful... so are Mercedes but most of us now drive Toyotas... thank god.. or you would be riding a Horse or Model T.

I support the revolution for film to fade away... 4K looks better and is cheaper both in production, distribution, and environmentally better (film is a toxic nasty chemical process).... so no, I am not to sorry when many more people can feed their families rather than a few privilege in Hollywood.

The argument is like... 20 years ago... "but... but... IBM employees will loose their jobs if millions of PCs are sold... why yes... and millions of people will now earn a living on PCs rather than a few rich corporations with expensive computers...

Thank God for Steve Jobs... and Gates (for stealing OS from IBM) and giving the nerds the power to give us the artist the power to do it ourselves and publish ourselves with Amazon, ebay, utube....

Jesus... I'm not crying that Sony, Arri, Panasonic are going to loose a few hundred employees when RED will empower thousands and influence millions more... like feeling sorry for the millions of horses that no longer live since we have millions of cars... its SAD, but I rather have a car than a horse...

Did you ever produce? Pay for film? $1.00 a foot - $200 a take for an actress to blow her line? With RED, you hit delete... no harm done but time on the set... but with film... you just blew $200 on her 1 minute take with slipped line.... No I do not feel sorry... The irony, Jim is Rich, could shoot film, but wants something better, and thank god cheeper... Maybe you are on the wrong forum... LONG LIVE RED... FILM IS DEAD... (just wait 5 years.. bookmark this for 2012!)
