View Full Version : White Spots in Black areas

I shot a horse race last weekend and I'm having a major problem with the footage. Everywhere in my frames where it goes deep black, I get this white speckled noise all over
I can look at the clips and adjust them in any one of the following:
Redcine (old style)
RedinceX 221
RedAlert
FCP

In these programs the r3ds and proxies look fine, but as soon as I render the proxies or log and transfer in FCP, they get spotted like this. When I rendered from RedAlert, RA quit on me, when I rendered on either Redcine, RedcineX or Redrushes- they just reported an error and created nothing.

Build 30
Any ideas?

I've never seen this before, but 90 percent of the time, any problems I have viewing or rendering my R3D files can be easily solved by recreating all of my Quicktime wrappers using Red Rushes.
I'd give that a shot and try rendering again.

It looks almost as if the deepest blacks are the only values that are dropping out. Is this happening after a color correct? Could it be because you have your black level's floor set too low?

Thanks for the reply, Jake- I've never seen it either
I'm trying a DPX now, and so far it's working- after that I'll give making a whole new set of wrappers a whirl
I thought about that color correct issue, too, and although I have played around some with look settings, both of these stills are from camera settings only.

had that after a firmware upgrade 30 some beta
solution:
1. bring the blacklevel to a normal state with redcine
2. you have to render from redcine full debayer
3. use color and get shure that you use full 4k render settings
4. the rendered files ( 422hq ) looked fine
5. upgrade the firmware to 30 final

solved all here

Thanks a bunch, Tony- didn't realize the release build was out, either!
Color seems to be working
