Today's episode was shot partly with RED! (Angie in 4K!)

Yes, that was very nice. These talking heads are the
cleanest, clearest RED footage so far. It is a good
example as they have other talking heads in the segment
that was not shot with RED and you can see the difference.

Notice how the two cameras handle highlights:

One of the frames is before one of the cuts and the other is after so you could say they were shot under the same conditions.
I think the RED edge is obvious!

Based on the chroma handling of the other shot, I'm guessing it was an HVX200.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the RED advantage is so obvious, even at such a low resolution.

Yes I am too. I guess that is how they recorded audio as well.

Just look at the depth of field too......Everything on the left shows that it is RED indeed.....I can't believe what the other camera looks like. Just look at how the color red picks up......I definitely see some botched pixels in the 'other HD cam'

The color and composition of the 'other HD cam' looks more flattering. You may lynch me now.. :)
... the highlights and real sharpness of RED has no equal.

I now have a better desire for the color red

They could have matched the chroma a bit better. All the RED shots
I have seen so far could use some chroma boost. But I think we
are getting a fair idea of what is in store.

The RAW coming out of RED does need some saturation boost, but that's not a bad thing.
I'm quite impressed by how RED handles highly saturated colors. The HVX200 is actually over-saturating the red in her shirt. I've seen it with the HVX before. At least with RED you have room to work with.

Are we sure that is a HVX200?

We normally shoot fxguidetv with the HVX200 directly to the Firestore recorder. So yes, it is effectively a comparison between the RED and the HVX200. We were rushing this ep out due to the IBC content, so we admittedly (and obviously) didn't take a lot of time to match and grade. My ugly mug and the interviews were shot on the HVX200...that footage from IBC went through a second pass of compression, as I uploaded from Amsterdam and didn't have the best bandwidth.
Glad you enjoyed the comparison.

It's all about asking the right questions. When is Apple's Phenomenon coming out??? It was worth a try. :)

I think part of it is that the HVX footage appears to be more contrasty and therefore gives better modeling of the face.

I can't see it. I can see episode 13 but episode 14, which I have dowloaded 3 times, doesn't seem to work. QUicktime player does not recognize it.

Weird. It's just h.264, just as Episode 13 is. Hmm.

To my eye the skin tones on your RED footage are massively more appealing than the HVX. I saw that image come up and thought "OMG... every newscaster is going to want a RED pointed at them".
The look is just so much more appealing. Good job.
Also, noticed the battery mount position. That's a location I've been considering to lower the CG and allow better access to the menu. Any problems? Can you go handheld with that?
I'm sure I'll be signing up for that RED class! Looking for --> workflow solutions: both on set and post. PC and Mac.

Interesting watching the narrow depth of field though. I can see there that up on that building another stop could help allow her to move slightly more and also stopp down would see a bit more out the window...
but let's face it. She looks hot. and not in an exposure way. ;)
