Dear Red Reps,
I'm curious, when these things are ready to roll, do you have a rough idea of about how many cameras will ship per month? Are there loose goals for the first batch of 100,500,1000 ? I'm sitting around #600 and trying to get all my ducks in a row. In other words, please, PLEASE take as much time as you need to work out all the bugs. I'd rather wait than have anything compromised. I've waited 36 years for this camera, I can wait a little bit longer. Thanks

Look at this thread (there are some statements from the Red Team):

Thank you very much. Questions answered. If anybody knows how to delete the thread I'd be much obliged.

I am sure the project is in an extremely dynamic phase of development right now. And I am sure you will keep us posted when there is new information on the delivery schedule.

In case of tradeoffs between cost/schedule/quality my vote would be for anything that improves product quality (particularly image quality).

Jim,

Quite frankly, my heart goes out to you and your troopers as I can't even begin to phantom the incredible amount of stress you guys are having to deal with right now... a fainthearted man would easily crumble under the weight of such a mammoth endeavor.

So once again, you have my prayers and best wishes as you gradually wind down on this very noble venture.

And all the fanboys say...

I imagine there won't be much winding down for a while yet, more likely still to be winding up if anything.

agreed, with RED bringing on new staff it is clear to see that they feel they have a lot of work to do.

You can bet into the 2nd/3rd month after the 1st shipping* succeeding the previous Jim's post ('cause this time, Jim had no comments at all):

«Since we have received the reservations, we have been able to adjust the production output considerably and now think it will take about 3-4 months to satisfy all the reservation holders orders. We are working to see if we can reduce the time, but this is the current status.» ~ Jim Jannard in 11-06-2006

This was before the 1500 mark, still into the 1080 first reservations. Now I wouldn't dare since Jim already posted here without adding not much but, I can guess.

* around April? May? -- so June-July? (for your and my 2nd RED ONE around #600)

I'm guessing the camera is released in batches of 50 with two week intervals.

1st shipments will be in small increments, ramping to higher levels as soon as we can.

I hope they produce faster than that... That would take 44+ weeks to get me my camera from the time they start production. :D

Actually, I don't think you're all that far off. I guess we won't know for sure until it happens, but I'm going to assume that each camera will be thoroughly tested before being shipped. It will probably take longer to test the cameras than to assemble them. I'm making the assumption that my camera will arrive around the end of this year. But like Jim said, they will start small and work up... So I may not even get my camera until next year - especially if a bug or two pops up.

I think this Jim's input helps very well to understand what expects us. That's why it's quite and especially useful to read between his posts. That said, it won't be difficult to update our own guesses.
