Zeiss ZE will work on Scarlet 2/3, S35, FF35 (if made) correct?

There is supposed to be a powered Canon EF mount for the camera, so yes.

I'm also planing on buying these Zeiss lenses for the S35 version of Scarlet. I really hope they are worth it.

Yeah, but the ZFs tend to be a better choice, because the have a manual aperture ring, but if you havent' purchased already, you may want to wait it out for the CP.2 release. They have a mount that you can change between F, EF, and PL.

Its just that CP.2 is 3 times more expansive for the exact same glass... I decided to go with the ZE because I like how I can use it to shoot stills easily on automatic mode etc, hate to be stuck on manual 100% of the time....

But image wise, the ZE will cover full S35 and 2/3 and FF35... right? so that's very cool.

CP .2 is $3900 per lens. You can have almost 3 ZE lenses for that price....

ZE is a manual focus lens you know that right, just dont want you to get the wrong thing!

Mike Brent

Yes, focus is manual... at least the rest can stay on auto if I want :-)

I think anyway I will get one Canon zoom for everyday stuff...

choices, choices..... what a headache.

Whoa, I didn't know they'd announced the prices. I should've known "cheaper" didn't mean anything of the sort.

Yes..the glass is the same..only difference is the CP versions have
more lens elements which provide a softer rounder out of focus
background.

Seems like the Zeiss CP lenses could have been half their price but
they jacked the price...all the way right up to the exact amount of the
Red Pro Primes..which are $3,800 per lens in a 5 lens set.
At that price the Red Pro Primes are a far..far.. better bargain.

The only reason I would pay 3 times more for the same glass is if I can use it to look at any girl in the street and miraculously see how she would look like in a bikini. Until Zeiss figures out a way to do that, I'm not paying $3900 for a lens.

I completely agree! Zeiss has flat out gone crazy for charging tht price for the EXACT same glass.

Seriously what were they thinking.

The cost difference reflects more than just glass. 18 leaf vs what 6 leaf iris? Better more precise mechanics, interchangeable mounts. All of these things add up to higher cost spread over potentially lower sales volumes, since DSLR shooters won't need the cine features. For some the features are worth the extra cost. Just like the Duclos modified Tokina 11-16mm: a $700 still lens becomes a $3k PL mount lens.

They target these lenses to a type of customer that doesn't exist. If someone can spend $3900 for a lens, he can also spend $5000 or $7000 for a real cine lens. An indie shooter will never pay $3900 when he can get more or less the same lens for $1200. Changeable mount? ZF can become a ZE with a $20 adapter.

One might pick the CP.2's over the standard versions to get the superior mechanics and FF35 coverage in a true cine style lens at a relatively modest price.

Be careful what you wish for. You could accidentally see a girl in a bikini who shouldn't be wearing one... ever.

Except that the 18mm CP.2 is T3.9

That is stupid.

Agreed. That's slower than many zooms. Guess it's a tradeoff for making each lens exactly the same size.

They were designed as a low cost rental set, mid price purnchse for the rental house means go they out on a lower weekly thus the indies can afford them.

My advice would be buy some nice ZF glass for your own work. One good PL Zoom. And when on paid shoots rent whatever suits the shoot best.
