I'm wondering what monitors people are using for editing and viewing 3D with FCP/Mac systems. Also, what video cards? How are they working? Thanks a ton for any info.

I’d be interested too.
I’ve been doing 3d things for a long time now, and we still use our Sony and Viewsonic CRTs 200hz refresh rate full frame sequential, with LCD shutter Glasses (Crystal Eyes). The CRTs provide good spatial resolution and of course good dynamic range and color depth. For larger stuff we project (twin linear polarized) if we really need to check something out.
I have not switched to “flat” monitors LCD or otherwise, as I feel they make the images seem “blocky” looking at the pixel level and the dynamic range is questionable. Some editors I know are happy to use systems that in effect halve the vertical resolution for lack of refresh rate and latency. The past eighteen months there have emerged 200hz stereo-capable flat panel displays, as well as consumer TVs.
I just wonder how people are fairing in terms of visual quality with the newer display technology, (would like one day (soon) to junk our CRTs and the (green phosphor afterglow)).
Anyone out there happy with their newer displays/monitors for s-3d work?
Cheers,
Eric

Thanks for the recommendation (as usual!)
So I’ll take a graphics workstation to Best Buy, and some CrystalEyes, and make a real pain in the arse of myself, (could be fun). Need to check specs etc. to see what the most appropriate input would need to be, i.e. the manufacturers (up to now) don’t make it so easy to use the TV directly as a computer monitor.
So with the Samsungs now, its full frame, full frame sequential, it’s not this inter-digitated weirdness like the DLPs of two years ago etc.?
Ta in Advance.

no the samsung is still not ideal. There is some apparent cross talk.
this is mearly just for review and what I would call a 3D "offline".
For true final stereoscopic adjustments on ANYTHING that is important enough (feature productions etc) you can't replace sitting in a Quantel pablo room with a christie 2k projector.......which luckily I have access to.
you failed to mention what is the purpose of this monitoring? if its just to look at some 3D and maybe select some shots etc... many of the solutions oulined will work.....but for stereo color correction, adjusments etc.....you gotta use the right tool.

we use the Hyundai 46 inch 3D LCD HDTV S465D and are very happy with it. It is a passive circular polarized monitor so you can you the cheap RealD or cardboard glasses.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd like to use it to look at shots, and check projects as they go. I won't be doing high end colour correction on it, of course.
When I look at the specs on most of the monitor options, there is no mention of any Mac OS, only Vista and Windows 7. On the website for the Hyundai S465D, it only mentions the Windows OS, no Mac. What setup are you using Jonny?

We have it hooked up to a Mac and it works great with both AE and FCP and the Dashwood 3d plugin and we also flip our Mac over to Linux to run our online finishing system ANT to it as well.
I wish Rocket would mux out a 3d flavor of some sort.
