MXアップグレードのメールがきました。7月と聞いていましたのでびっくりしました。
一週間で戻ってくるとのことです。ちょっと楽しみです。
Got mail today from Red re:MX upgrade. We were expecting around July. Pleasantly surprised. Turn around time is only seven days according to their mail.

It's around #1950, Our second Red is around #2300. Our plan is to keep both Red 1 with MX upgrade and purchase two Epic. Ending up with four bodies.
We figured second stage Epik will have less taker and turn around time for us will be lot faster than MX upgrade took to be our turn.

After almost one month of getting notice from Red we finally managed to send out and got back our MX upgraded Red 1. Very good timing since we are shooting underwater footage in Miami next week. We have tested ISO 800 and ISO1600 settings and they are quite usable.
We also got notice on MX upgrade for our second Red1 (#2350) we are shipping out in two weeks. Within a month we will have two MX upgraded Red 1 cameras. Then we can be very patient for the release of Epic camera.
Also we have purchased Arri Compact remote follow focus with three motors.(one for focus and other for aperture and zoom)
Interesting thing is
Arri Compact Wireless follow Focus $20,000 VS Red 1 camera $17,500
Something wrong in this picture?
I guess I have to start charging extra for focusing.
On the other hand I did not get involved in Viewfactor mess. So many guys who bought into that scam are still out of focus.

Shin,
What about preston's Radio Micro Force?
I do rent them sometime and works pretty well; solid build.
I know that Arri's is better design and looks slick, love it.
Viewfactor forget about it.

Preston is good but we have Arri Master Zoom which is huge. We need really heavy torc for this piece. Boys in our studio call this lens "John Holmes" I don't know why. Beside Arri having more powerful motor, when you try to control three motors (zoom, aperture and focus) Arri seem more reliable choice. Yes price is absolutely ridiculous indeed.

Hehehe.... :D
Back on topic, I'm glad I managed to get a refund on our large Viewfactor order (we had ordered 8 motors and 3 controllers for our three Red One cameras). We got burned because we had been promised delivery in 2008 and went into our first feature deal saying we'd have it based on Viewfactor's promise, then didn't have it which pissed off the client as they had to rent FF4's instead. Nothing we could do about it but it made us look bad because of Viewfactor breaking their promise.
The lesson learned is never put down 100% of money up front for anything ever again, unless it's a company that has a track record of delivering what they promise and being honest when they are delayed (such as Red).
Cheers,
Paul
