Hi there,

I will be in Melbourne from 16 June for a week or so shooting with my Red and want to take the opportunity if I can to test out some Zeiss ZFs on the Red as I am considering buying these (its just one possibility I am considering). Is there any fellow Red user in Melbourne who owns the ZFs and would be willing to meet and let me test out the ZFs and share their experiences with the ZFs?

Hey Rob,

I'm in Sydney so can't help with testing, but I can tell you that the ZFs are absolutely amazing, and everyone drools over my set. Difficult to keep them dry sometimes!

Great build, tack sharp and in many ways rival lenses that cost 5x as much.

Get the Duclos cine mod to declick the iris and add really nice permanent gears (not the cheap screw-on gears you see sometimes.)

Unless you are getting RPPs, in my opinion ZFs are an easy choice.

This isn't that helpful, but to feed in: I've used Jim (Hare's) 50mm 1.4 ZF and it's noticeably sharper than our Cooke 25-250 MkII, which it should be, but I was floored by just how sharp it is. Not to mention the difference in size. ZFs and Epic/Scarlet would be a kit that fit in a handbag...

Hey Rob

I know a guy with some Zeiss ZFs in Melb - shot with them a few times and they are pretty nice for the price. PM me if you're still looking and I'll pass on details.

Cheers

Cam

Thanks everyone. The Red community in Australia is terrific.

I am going to try a number of lens sets before buying. Already had a play with the Red Primes. I want to try out the Schneider Cine Xenars too but they are heavy lenses.

Cam I have sent you a pm.
