Post links to your demo reels here!

This is a great place to see what others from this forum have done.

I'll get the ball rolling. Here's a link to some teasers, trailers, and demos that I have done.

Greg,

Thanks!

They're asking $420,000, I think, and it's 15 minutes from Park City.

JIC anyone's interested, I'm selling a 1.2 acre lot in the same development. Like I told Brad, if I still have it this winter, you're all invited to build snow forts and stay there during Sundance.

Hardest thing about only being part of the principle photography is getting access to the footage once complete. It often takes a good long time to be completed, and even then it's not easy. The newest thing on my reel is almost a year old at this point.

Jeremy,

I actually looked at your video a few days ago. I even sent Rob an email telling him I thought the new video looked good.

It's nice work, I especially like what you did with the camera movement. Was that a crane? cable? It looked good whatever it was.

When I worked with BikeSkills, it was tough because I always felt like there wasn't enough budget to go as far as I wanted to.

It looks like they may have stepped up the budget, though, considering the quality of your work.

Keep me posted your projects. I always love to see good work, especially in mountain biking.

Thanks for the comments.

It's been good working with Rob. Unlike a lot of companies in the bike industry he is beginning to see what things are worth - as far as film/video - and the value that brings to the viewer.

I was excited to see that you were also getting a RED. Do you have any projects planned out? If you ever need a hand, or an extra Red, just let me know.

Jeremy,

I have big plans for my Red.

I'm planning to shoot a werewolf movie in the Spring, and remake Desert of Eden in the Summer. So, if everything goes according to plan, I'll be doing two features next year.

As far as action sports go, I plan to stick with cars mostly. It's a good industry and there's a lot of potential.

From the looks of some of these demo reels, I may be hiring from the forum, and I will definately keep you in mind.

It's mostly commercial work, and quite a lot of "outdoor adventure" type companies. There is one video on the youtube channel of a zipline company I did up in Whistler a couple years ago. Recently I've done a bit of camera work for a dogsledding company up there as well. That was quite fun.

I'll try to gather some of the more exciting work I've done and put it in a link on my website when I get the time. I just got back into Aptos after being in Whistler for a few months, so I'm a little busy at the moment.

I'll make sure to keep you posted when I get some material to put up.

It used to. I'm satisfied with my reel as it is for the moment. Prior to it getting to its current stage, and especially before I had any reel at all was when it was the most frustrating. I was scraping at anything and everything I could to hopefully assemble 3 minutes of footage. That was tough and I shudder to go back and view some of my first generation reels, even in private. I'm sure someday I'll feel the same about my current one, but I guess that'll only mean I've moved up a few notches.

Yeah count me in, that footage shot with the RED is going to be some tight stuff. My friend Erik does nature photography as a semi-professional, he's a hobbyist but he's been doing it seriously for many years and has paid for professional training going on trips to Yosemite park and things like that to enhance his skills, so he's just getting into some paid work. It's really amazing the kind of stuff you can get in nature.

Thor,

I like the action good job again. I few years back I got to shoot some video of some extreme snowmachiners. When I get home I will post a little clip of the guys jumping down the side of Mountains here in Alaska. I also have some footage where a Bear charges me while behind a camera. It is fun to show it off. It goes out of focus because I was not brave enough to stand there. Or maybe I was smart enough to back off and let him attack the camera not me.

Mark,

Thanks for posting that. I really enjoyed it. But then again my favorite show was Blue Panet. I love the water and seeing all that goes on. Your shots are well done and look very good. I thought about RED underwater also for here in Alaska. Most of my time is in Shallow Rivers with Salmon and Trout. 4K sure would look good on the big screen. I look forward to the future of Video and what we will be able to accomplish with the new gear.

Mark Thorpe
09-18-2007, 05:51 PM
Cheers Greg,
Underwater 4K is gonna be massive.....anyway you look at it. Everything we've ever seen on the screen to date has to be done again!

I guess one of the few parallels where this same monumental need for imagery can be likened to the transition from black and white to color. Feels good to be in a position to supply a very specialized market.

Here's to the future.........

Tom,
I went to Belize in '98. I was there to film the Whalesharks at Gladden Split so didn't get too much time to do anything else. I've heard conflicting reports on the whole Blue Hole experience. I'd like to see it but I'm not in any rush to fly there specifically for that.

Cheers,

Tom Lowe

I liked it. I went down to like 135 feet, but got a little narced (only time I've ever been narced)... I looked up and saw hundreds of hammerheads circling the "hole" above me. Pretty neat.

Of course, there's always the shallow-water "Shark-Ray Alley" just off Amergris, but like you say, it's not worth a whole trip just for those things.

What camera did you use to shoot most of that reel?

Actually my avatar is from near the Blue Hole in Belize, now that I think of it.

Mark Thorpe
09-18-2007, 06:05 PM
All of that was shot on a PAL standard DCR-VX1000 in a Sealux housing from Germany.

Now filming with the Sony Z1 'Spawn of Satan' HDV Format!

Tom Lowe
09-18-2007, 06:16 PM
haha, but not for much longer! RED is gonna be awesome for the type of work you do. BTW, who is building underwater housings for RED, and is that something I could rent out of LA next summer?

Mark Thorpe
09-18-2007, 06:33 PM
If you're interested in the whole development of housings or wet environment applications for RED then maybe check out our own dark little 'puddle' here on the forum. Us 'Bubble Blowers' have our small thread going in the User Groups area.

People developing housings for RED are our very own Mike Hastings or AquaVideoRed206 as he's known here, then you have the Gates Underwater Products company, based in San Diego. Also I've heard now that RED has actually materialized that other companies such as Amphibico from Canada may be looking to develop housings. I'm sure by next year there will be many rental options for wet housings, or you could simply hire 'someone' to shoot for your projects!!

Cheers,
Mark.

Greg Syverson
09-18-2007, 06:47 PM
Mark,

I sold my equipment a little while ago and promised not to waste any efforts anymore in what I consider lower quality. I even stayed away from HDV which is not bad and has a market just like some SD does. Now it is time to step up to the plate. The good thing I have going for me is my girlfriend is so into photography and video. She supports me 100 percent which is a good thing because I like her and what I do. I would not want to have to make a choice again. The cost was high for a divorce but even worse if I was not able to live my dreams

Mark Thorpe
09-18-2007, 06:59 PM
Like they say Greg, "Behind every good man, there's a better woman". At least thats what I tell the missus anyway, keeps her happy. She knows I'd be unbearable if I didn't do what I do. I get cranky after a few days with no diving!!

Mind you I find it funny that some people are more attracted to your work than you as a person. The idea of getting into a 'glamorous' lifestyle of film making etc appeals to some women more than caring for the person they are with. I've had a few relationships in the past where after 'accepting' me for what I am for the first few months is soon replaced by increasing demands for me to change my priorities.

My work comes first, period. When I can no longer dive, or when there's nothing left to film, when I feel I've achieved all that I can, maybe then I'll change. Until that time comes my current girlfriend, and possibly the only person who has really understood my ideals, has resigned herself to the fact that I will spend more time with the fish than with her. She's a rock.

Cheers,
Mark.

She came to Alaska and I went to Mexico with her. She is more crazy about photography than I am, and I thought I was crazy. I can still remember years ago I was camped out with a BBC film crew. Everyone left except the underwater camera man and myself. I was so hungry to be famous and live the life of a camera man. He told me the pay was terrible when you think of all the time you put into it. Also dont plan on keeping a relationship very long. They love you at first and are supportive. Then they get tired and come to the conclusion you are always going to be gone for long periods of time. They move on
