Just wondering if anyone knows how many amps the camera pulls when turned on and recording? I just built some block batteries to run my film cameras and I thought about the possibility of making some high capacity 12 volt blocks for my RED when it arrives.

The "red brick" battery is 140 watt-hours and I've heard people say it lasts anywhere from a few hours to a full day of shooting. If the battery is 12 V and it lasts 2 hours, that implies a current draw of 6 amps (70 watts at 12 V). I do not have a camera myself so of course, this is no more than a guess. Needless to say accessories like LCD viewscreen, etc. are a factor also.

That sounds fairly reasonable. The Genesis draws 14 amps constant which is crazy. 7 for the camera and 7 for the deck. So 6 amps sounds about right for RED I suppose. I made a 12 volt block with 28 amp/hours so that should last quite a while...

Nice...Li-ion I hope.
Jarred was saying it lasts about 90mins so that would pop the drain up a couple of amps.
Nice link here (http://www.ocean-server.com/example_configurations.html) for lithium-ion power supplies/battery packs for pc/laptop/camera field use.

Just for the sake of completeness the actual split on Genesis consumption is 7.5 amps for the camera (30-50 fps or 5 amps less than 30 fps), 0.5 amps for the viewfinder, 1.1 amps for the onboard astro monitor 5 amps for the VTR.

Hmm, I was considering 4 Red Bricks for my order. Do you guys believe thatīll be enough to get through a shooting day ? I mean, on most occasions, there would also be possibility of using the camera connected to a power socket...

I believe the red bricks are 14.4 volts which is pretty much standard in the broadcast industry for the last 10 years or more.

I think 4 Red bricks will be enough for a shooting day (of course it depends on the type of shooting), but I will be sure that I have some kind of re-charging possibilities (I mean some electric power), as 90 minutes is not that long...
