In my quest to find the perfect mattebox, I began to ponder, if one could design their ideal mattebox, how would it look like...? What features would you like to see in current mattebox designs from companies like Arri and Chrosziel...? Maybe if we speak loud enough, they would listen...

My first suggesetion: Affordability...!

Thoughts, anyone...!?

:) Yeah... get Curt Von Badinski from View Factor Studios to do it...:innocent:
There are two or three huge threads on the subject... it is a great question GrafxLvr and something that is weighing heavily on many us.

Cheers man-- Andrew

This thread would actually be quite redundant at this point because it's been covered from top to bottom many times over in this forum, and ViewfactorStudios and RedRockMicro have been working on their respective matteboxes, which are being designed according to suggestions made by forum members. Just do a search and you'll find tons of info on this. At this point we're just waiting the release of the matteboxes, which have been promised to be very affordable.

Yes... there are already many established threads (no need to begin another) to discuss this because it is something most here intend to purchase very shortly... if they do not already own what they need.

The reason matteboxes are expensive is because they sell so few units (historically, at least). Yuo have to make your money back, and if only 500-100ppl buy one, you need to charge in the thousands. RedrockMicro can charge so little because they sell more units, simple as that.

Oh, and I'd make the bellows and flags out of semi flexible rubber as an emergency bumper for the camera in case it ever fell forward, or the steadicam dude bumps into a wall/door on the way through.

You may have a point... i.e., about redundancy... but, IMHO, I'm still hoping the big-boys come out with a good solution at a reasonable cost... I'm a firm believer of: You get what you pay for...!
