Where is the color fringing on the tires and highlights coming from? Demosaic? Sharpening? Lens?

It's CA in the lens. If you look at the green channel, the focus is off by several feet... wow.

That's as flat as it comes from the RAW files or after color correction?

That's good fun: why don't we all post something native and start ranting when someone doesn't immediately understand it?

FordGT-4k.tiff looks like a good image to test different demosaic detail settings and sharpening options:

As is there is some 'pixelisation'.

Most of the problem with that crop is CA though. Really, really bad CA.

But Miha you could always find "hair in an egg shell" if you are looking for it.

But this is a nice, modern cinema and theater release film look to wash "too much CA/pixelized eyes":

follow your rantings undercovered.. as a non-right to not understand.. or the right to understand them as only undercovered, don't we?..

our points are always rantings.. for our viewpoints, we should express them in your language.. in your native language as non-rantings, don't we?..

even with no right to rant off mode, don't we?..

equality is not an abstract concept though a french revolution heritage, it's also a concrete practice.. not only in non-native english..

as cherry on top, it's interesting to check the dutchman to wish to be part of predominant speaker.. is that the reason why i can't remember any other name from the dutch cinema but the hollywoodian mediocre paul verhoeven?..

Ha, didn't see this in the YouTube version, but that's Torrey driving! :)

I guess in 4K you're gonna have to watch out for the stunt-doubles :)

That's part of the fun, looking for hairs. So Jim can remove them one way or another. If there were no differences between full res 4K data (as downsampled from an 8K sensor) and the Red One sensor there would be no incentive for a Red 2 or a new sensor sometime in the future. Not to mention develop new lenses that have no CA even at full 4K (and still cost not a fortune).

Jason,

CAUGHT! Yes I am the uncredited stunt driver.

We had to get some audio for the sound guys, so I was able to get it up to some pretty high speeds driving by the crew with the sound guy sitting in the passenger side at one point.

The crew was almost knocked over by the blowback as we drove by, and the audio guy crawled out saying "amaaaazing....."

This was a fun shoot.

We've got ourselves a new REDHKSC, by the looks of it. And this time it's a gang! :help:

No seriously, I think you're entitled to your share of slang. Do realize however that german slang (if that is what it is) is not as widely spread as english slang and you therefore cannot automatically assume that everyone will understand it. I find it hard enough to understand your english. (your first 4 sentences are mumbojumbo to me, seriously. I really tried.)

I'm not sure what Paul Verhoeven has got to do with it. Do you think his craftmanship or lack thereof has got anything to do with his place of birth?
Reminds me of some old habits, Leni.

let him alone from here.. did he have a part on this head-butting?.. :angry03:

that was my first thought when i read it.. and now, it's late for an edit.. it's already quoted.. sorry.. :sarcasm:

if you're jealous about my gang..

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?p=76614#post76614

create yours from your own convictions.. you don't need me to your show off.. try to get some good points that may attract others to talk with you.. valid ones, not this crappy, senseless, unfriendly.. how many adjectives do you need to see the image you're giving about yourself?..

seriously.. i meant what's already known.. a lot of your part in history has been based on your neighbours on the other side of the channel and their moves.. a portion of your history has been based on your mimic play skills.. this has nothing about derogative remarks like your mumbojumbo quote.. actually, your care about non-native issues is speaking for yourself.. the more you talk the more..

yours,
mumbojumbo

ps
i hadn't wish it but i will say it anyway.. :whistling: just for your information.. i love the dutch gals.. and modesty apart, i haven't had complaints to claim.. ehehehehehe

edit
to be continued.. about mimic skills, follow the link left by floris.. terrific.. lol

Torster,
what is the short horizontal line cutting across the ear of the foreground actor?

It is present in both 2k and 4k tiffs.

Is the forground actor's head highlight the same diameter on the .r3d frame?

Most of the problem with that crop is CA though. Really, really bad CA.

It could be better but it is not a show stopper.
Interestingly CA is one abberation I'v found that gets disguised in a film transfer.

Have a particular shot in an early HD f900 reel that has red/magenta CA or prism abberation that is perhaps 10x wider than the Ford example but it is impossible to see it on a 35mm showprint. Thousands of people have seen the prints (it was distributed by Sony in 2002) but no one commented on CA.

Could be something to do with during development of the print the dark areas exhausting developer and robbing denisity to surrounding areas.

Just a theory. Digital projectors have their own sets of problems and CA is a issue for greenscreen.

Torster,

curious as to the focus strategy for the Ford shot as in the frame you've posted it appears the car is 10 feet behind the optimal focus.

Was the intention to follow focus or to preset a fixed focus point and let the car drive through?

If you look at the separate color channels, you'll see that blue and red are much closer to correct focus. The green channel is off by at least 10 feet.

That's why I mentioned the bad CA... no it's not a show stopper, but clearly the lens has an issue.

I noticed it on both of the FordGT shots posted by Silverado. I haven't seen it on any others that I can remember...
