Hi there... anybody had suggestions on workflow from the Red Camera to FCP and out to delivery on HD DVD? Some post facilities I've been calling to do a test haven't the slightest what I'm talking about...

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Hi,

Take the footage into RedCine (Publicly available soon).

Transcode the files to Apple's ProRes codec (I'm guessing you want 1080p).

Edit in FCP.

Export for HD-DVD using DVD Studio Pro 4

Some more things to consider...

Depending on when this is going to happen and what sort of equipment and resources you have, ProRes may not be the best choice. Use REDCINE / REDQUICK to create a QuickTime wrapper around your 4K footage that includes a 1K or 2K proxy to edit with. Of course, we're still waiting for that software, but hopefully we'll have it soon.

DVDSP currently doesn't have proper support for 1080p HD-DVD authoring. It only supports 1080i and 720p. You'll have to do some manual futzing about get get 1080p on that disc.

Thank you for the info... we are camera testing today... anyone have any idea on what the transfer rate is from the RAW 4K files to usable FCP media? What is the formula? I need to also calculate how much storage space I'll need to complete this project... :innocent:

All of these things are variable and will change depending on the specific work flow you choose. Just as you would have set aside time for digitizing in a "tape based" work flow you have to consider transfer times in a RED workflow. Back up and archive will also be important considerations for your storage space because there will be the shot material, the back up and the material you choose to edit with.

There are a couple of ways to go. It will most likely change by the time you are in post too.

I can help you solve some of this on a quick, free call. I am happy to help. I PM'd you.
