You are seriously selling a RED at that point?

Heck I'd pay more than that for it.

Hi,

Have you thought about making an auction thread for it. Don't forget that November delivery of the camera will likely be about 4 or 5 months before anyone buying today so there will likely be people willing to pay a little more for it.

Hi RedGuy,

I wouldn't really want to sell something for $20,000+ on eBay and pay the 5-6% or whatever it is on it.

I've seen public auction threads before. You basically set an end time and date add in a no sniping rule, so that if someone bids within the last minute it is extended for an extra 10 or 15 minutes and then just leave it for anyone to make an offer.

I think it could be fairly amusing to watch :)

Ebay is the best way to go when there's more than one applicant.

You have a point there. I think the fee is more like 3.5% but
yes saving $700-$900 would be preferable as long as the
transaction is conducted in a proper manner.

I haven't been on eBay in a couple years. You can add a no sniping rule? That must be a new feature.

This smells like a hoax. The guy has 3 posts and is selling everyone's dream for less than it costs? Sounds fishy :detective2:

I'd like to hope that everything is legit on this board. According to the current delivery schedule, any red that could be resold used this November must have a serial number less than 200. If you knew that specific number it would seem more real. I don't know if RED would be interested in doing this, but in theory they could confirm if XXX name is associated with YYY serial number.

Paul,

Why no sniping?

Stephen

Stephen,

I'm not sure why it's always been done this way on such thread auctions. I believe it's to do with the fact that forums are not as accurate a way to deal with those last few seconds (e.g. someone clicks the button with a couple of seconds to go but lag causes their bid to appear late). It therefore detracts from arguments at the end of the auction because it meets a more natural conclusion of people paying what they are willing to pay just as a real life auction would.

Yeah, I'd want to do the deal in person that's for sure. No wiring money around.

Hi,

Including a buyout price in the thread is ok too Stephen.

Joel, I'd be happy to act as a middleman for the delivery of money, of course the transaction takes 6 months whilst the money sits in my account doing nothing :).

Hi Paul,

I have never had a snipe bid fail to go through myself, I only snipe auctions myself.

it seems a little fishy to me to request a $2,000 deposit on the unit before it can even be made available to inspect or ship.

I think I'd stay far away from these terms.

Best way to sell it profitably would be after the shoot when you can deliver it right away. Under those terms, I would confidentally expect a bidding frenzy.

I am wondering if the manufacturers warranty is in fact transferrable as the ebay ad claims.

From the configuration sticky: Standard Warranty – A Standard Warranty is granted to the original purchaser for a period of twelve (12) months,
parts and labor, for the camera and camera accessories excluding Digital Media and Batteries.

Hi Paul,

I have never had a snipe bid fail to go through myself, I only snipe auctions myself.

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

There is a fundemental flaw in snipe bidding which actually means such auctions are not actually auctions. By including snipe bidding the auction will often not get proper bids in place, rather discounted bids in the lead up to the end. To combat this a lot of people will bid on their own items to push it up a bit by creating a false account. With a forum it's even easier to create a false account (eBay isn't exactly hard either, nor is it difficult to find a friend that will bid up your auction).

The end result is such an auction doesn't represent the true spirit of what an auction actually is; What others are willing to pay for an item.

Instead auctions such as eBay represent who wins the betting game at the end.

Just like you Stephen I would only buy at the last second and snipe an eBay auction. The fact is that if you don't you likely won't win it. But if sniping meant the auction continued in such a manner on eBay most auctions would be finished long before the end date and would actually make for a far more rounded and realistic auctioning experience.

Not sure I agree, sniping just tends to cut out some of the sillyness at the end of auctions when people get carried away. It isn't so good for sellers because they might sometimes be able to achieve a higher price with those daft bids. It is still selling to the highest bidder, so it's still an auction. The biggest problem with sniping is it tends to rile the under bidder who thought they had it, so it creates disharmony. Great buzz when you are the winning snipee though...

Perhaps Martin,

My point is simply one that such sniping rules make it more like a real auction. Sniping can be great, probably not if I was selling my RedOne though :)

I kind of knew it was probably only a matter of time until some moron pops his head up to libel me...
Only 3 messages? I am so sorry I have not been cluttering the reduser board with useless comments such as "this is better than film!", "i will sell my sister to get one of those!"... Some people actually have to work.
I just don't understand why people got to have an opinion on everything including someone's private desire and circumstances to sell something...
By the way, not everyone in this industry is in the freaking rental business!

Yeah, I am not really that political about those kinds of things...
I remember the saying: "opinions are just like a-holes, everyone's got one"...
A lot of people forget that it's not just the camera but the talent behind it and now looks like more and more like the talent at the color-grading workstation is what counts too...

Doesn't an attack need to be on a readily identifiable individual before it's libelous? Unless, of course, your surname actually is "C", which would be cool.

Sure, we can take this discussion over to a legal forum. I am just trying to sell a camera here. I am happy you've found my reply amusing enough to reply though...

Are there any moderators on here that could close this thread? I don't think that the "for hire/sale" forum is an appropriate place for a pissing contest...
