Im looking for a relatively cheap way of checking IO and allignment on-set and the transvideo solution is a bit out of reach so I was thinking of using the hdlink in anaglyph mode and switch to side by side whenever there is a 3dtv for clients. Anyone used it yet?

I don't think they are out yet. I am looking forward to getting one.

Im also thinking of getting a zalman screen, its cheap and hdlink seems to be able to upscale to full screen compared to the old one that did only native.

HDLink supports 3D via DisplayPort only
Zalman ZM-M215W doesn't seem to have that... only VGA and DVI, no DisplayPort

Hi,
HDLink Pro 3D has a DisplayPort output but you can use DisplayPort to HDMI or DVI adapters to suit your display.
However, it does not support anaglyph modes.
We're not sure if it will work with Zalman displays but I'll contact them and see if we can get any to verify.

Any chance you might implement it in a future firmware update? It's the single most important use of such a device on location...

Won't rule out anything. We'll check it out and see what we can do.

We sell a "Stereobrain" product which provides both Anaglyph and side-by-side modes via HD-SDI and DVI/HDMI. Worth checking out in the interim while Backmagic update their systems.

I have just finished a 3D drama using a beta version of this box and we had mixed results. The main issue was that the box would display an image for about half the time. Not sure if this was a genlock issue with the Red Cameras or not but we did have use of the Beta of Sonys new professional field monitor and it had no such issue.
Also the box did not have any scaling so the Red 720P output ended up as small windows on our 1080 screens.
To change settings you need to use a laptop connected via USB. Our box kept losing its settings everytime it was unplugged so a laptop had to be constantly connected.
The B&C connectors look like they are attached to the circuit boards and not the chassis. Not good for location work.
A BIG Caveat was that we were using a BETA version of the box so possibly all these issues have been addressed.

I tried to test a pair of Genlocked (Gen 10) REDs with my HDLink 3D yesterday and had no luck. The screen would be blank except for an occasional flash. The same set-up was working with the Transvideo and the 3Ality box that we had there but didn’t want to play with the BlackMagic.

I think all of black magic's boxes are like this.....even shooting under controlled conditions, every blackmagic "box" I have used now has loose or broken bnc's. I have no idea why they do that.

What is the purpose of the hdlink pro 3d?
I think it is not for set viewing. I think its for postproduction room.
I use a scaler system that work well on the set.
My scaler has 2x hdmi, dvi, component. And out hdmi, dvi or component. I used it from 2x red hdmi to samsung consumer 3d
over side by side hdmi.
Side by side, over under, mix, you can scale what you want. I think is possible anagliph. 5-12v. Up to 10 presets. Is possible to change converge point for when paralell. No computer needed. Near no delay. No sync needed. FlipHV. DualKeyer. On screen menu... 700€.
Saludos,
Jose.

Hi Jose.
Can you elaborate a bit more on your system? I was very hopeful for this Blackmagic solution but from the sounds of it, it seems like blackmagic voodoo needed to get it to work with a couple of Reds, plus the fact its lacking anaglyph mode... this would've been a great $500 solution for out in the field. Next step up seems to be Stereobrain but that is also a pricey solution.

I've got a BlackMagic HDLink Pro 3D unit playing nice with a 3D camera rig to a Samsung 40" 3D HDTV through HDMI and outputting a muxed signal to a Leader Waveform/Vectorscope for dual signal monitoring and adjustments. Not using Red cams but Sony EX, however, it should work fine with Red.
All in all, it took 5 minutes to set up with a laptop and works as advertised. It is most definitely a viable production tool.

A lot of BMD products have issues with the SDI signal from the Red. The HDLink Pro certainly does, although the original HDLink does not. The SDI signal from a Red needs to be re-clocked before the HDLink Pro (and many other devices) will accept it.

Our Red is in at the moment being all Xed up. It's first job upon return (after I've had a play) is to go back to BMD for more tests as they work on overcoming the problems with the Red monitor out. The guys at BMD are very focussed on fixing this (even though it's not their issue). No finger-pointing at Red, it's meant to be a video split, not a source for recording and, at first when I spoke to BMD about it, I was like, "You guys are crazy. Why the hell would anyone want to record the video tap? It's like hooking a trailer up to your Porsche" but there are, obviously, people out there who want it (I still don't get it  Can you say "RAW"?) and so BMD are working on it.
So, while Jim and co work their magic over Epic, Grant and co will work their magic over the video tap. Cool huh?

Nothing to do with 3D but I am going to ask here anyway since there is someone from BMD here...
The Decklink HD 3D supports 10-bit color over HDMI?
Can someone confirm it works in 10-bit with the HP Dreamcolor?

According to the specs here (http://decklink.com/products/decklinkhdextreme/techspecs/), the HDMI is 10 bit.

I know, thanks. But so are the specs on my Red Rocket BOB (at least that is what I was told). I can't even get any image out of the HDMI to my Dreamcolor. So, before I spend another $1K+ I need to know it works 100%. I'm not buying anything anymore on specs. I want tested and confirmed results.

I know where you're coming from. We bought an Eizo monitor and one DVI port works (the 8 bit DVI port) and the other (the 10 bit DVI-D port) doesn't. Eizo blame Blackmagic and, while it's true the monitor will show images out of the Red Rocket on that port and not the Decklink/HDLink, they're blaming BMD because, they tell me, the monitor is progressive and they insist the signal is PsF. OK, fine, except why does the other port work? I'm still of the opinion the higher spec port isn't adequately communicating with the host (in this case the HDLink) what kind of signal it requires. But while they refuse to accept they might be at fault and simply point at someone else and say "It's their fault", I have a $7,000 screen I can't use.
Fortunately for me I have a pretty good relationship with BMD, having worked there years back, and plus they're only five minutes from here, so I'm reasonably confident we'll eventually get it sorted but it's a PITA nonetheless.
BTW, I've had all mother of problems getting a signal out of our Rockets but now, for gawd only knows what reason, everything works hunky-dory. Do you have the Dreamcolor connected to the #1 port on the BoB? That's caught me out before today.

Hey Mark. I'm assuming you're talking about AJA, not the "other" monitor guys like LG or Samsung or whatever.
Look, that's all great. The more the merrier and it's just the same as if Nikon or Sony or whoever released an Epic killer tomorrow for a similar price, we'd all be the better off for it. And, if you're talking about a 3D 2k card with fully implemented DisplayPort onboard, that would be huge.
My issue at the moment is that there seems to be a dearth of quality monitoring solutions with good calibration abilities, 10 bit or more, wide gamma, that show 2k pixel-for-pixel and use a reliable, professional level interface and that don't cost a fortune. I know, "faster, better, cheaper - two out of three", but it is frustrating for me when one company can deliver a particular standard at a high quality/low price and yet others continue to charge a premium or lag behind (or both).
Red is an example. A 5K/120fps/HDR camera for $28,000 when Arri want $60,000 for a 3k/60fps camera. WTF?
Another is BMD and 3Gb/s HDSDI. Most higher priced manufacturers still only offer dual link 1.5Gb/s HDSDI and where they offer 3Gb/s, it costs a fortune.
It just begs the question. Why can't HP or Eizo or JVC (talking projectors now) include HDSDI inputs? They have shown they can produce great monitors and projectors at great prices, why not go the extra yard and include better input ports? How hard can that be when BMD sell entire 3D HD capture cards with multiples of them for under $1,000? I know what this stuff costs and it's really inexpensive to build.
I just don't get it, is all. Curran is right. With all this screwing around with standards convertors, HDSDI-DVI, DVI-HDMI, whatever, you never know where to turn when it doesn't work. You read the specs, match everything up, plug everything in and wind up looking at a black screen. Grrrr.:banghead:

Just tried all 4 HDMI ports and also each setting for the Monitor Out in RedcineX. 1920x1080 10-bit, 1920x1080 8-bit, 1920x1200 8-bit, etc. All I get is a black screen...
No

Sorry Curran, I'm fresh out of ideas. It's odd. I still have no idea why ours now works or, more specifically, why it didn't before. Don't you hate it when you fix something and you have no idea how or what you did? Started out with black, then got green and then. slowly, it became more reliable. Hardly scientific.:furious3:
All I can say is persevere. Ours works perfectly now 100% of the time. And no more green screen. If we ever buy DVS, we're shelling out for the support agreement.

Just got mine today and tried to do a test from SDI in to Display port to HDMI to our VT25 plasma. No luck, no signal, no nothing! I know our Display port to HDMI adapter works cause I'm using all the out of my 4800 FX card.
Blackmagic said I should try a monoprice adapter which is qualified to work, otherwise the unit is bad. That said, I've never had great luck with Blackmagic hardware and hence why I usually go with AJA products, cause they just work! Anyhow, I'll try the new adapter and if that doesn't work I'm just going to return the box and forget about it.
