about to shoot a music video on RED.
Curious about drive speed needed to cut RED footage in Final Cut Pro.
Will Firewire 800 work or will I need E-Sata Raid?
Also, storage/space wise... how many gigs per minute of REDCODE 4K footage.
one minute of footage = requires "X" gigs of drive space

FW800 should work. Definitely for Prores HQ 1080. Native Redcode editing in FCP is still not working. Soon though.

Wow. FW800 WILL work even with Pro Res HQ? Even on a mac book pro (new one)? I thought Pro Res HQ was 220 MB per second.

Scratch:
a) For 25fps playback of 2k 10bit DPX files the technical minimums are:
Sustained read bandwidth across array, minimum of 301MB/s
b) For dual stream 24fps playback of 2k 10bit DPX files
Sustained bandwidth across array for dual stream operation at 24fps per stream, minimum of 577MB/s

As mentioned, if you're working in ProRes you don't even need a Raid. If you say no money, that pretty much excludes Fiber Channel as that is not cheap. SATA raids are a great solution, and not expensive. The Sonnet drive you linked to is getting very good reviews, I know a couple people who use Sonnet SATA raids are are very happy so far.
Cheers,

Steve Martin on how to become a millionaire. First get a million dollars.
We are using CalDigit eSata raid for 720/1080 and it works great. I hope that 2K would also work, at least for one stream. 4K no way.
