For those of us who don't know "Sim Video". Who/what are they? And where does this information come from?

They are a big video rental house based out of Canada, with satellite offices.
The info comes from here:

I don't have it in front of me but don't they have an add in the new AC for a Viper configuration they customized?

I used to rent from Sim when they had a few video cameras in a very small rental facility. Ha, good for SIM. 50 reds sounds like the right track. Wonder if they got a deal?

Maybe I'm not looking right but I can't find any info on the camera. I know a commercial producer who I interned for who is looking to use a RED camera soon. Any idea if SIM Toronto would have it soon?

I've worked for them a bit as freelance Avid support in Los Angeles. They're a great bunch of guys. Very knowledgeable.

it's good a bad move to use all 50 RED one cameras to support the 4K to anything for the O games in 2008 in Bejing.
There is a rumor that Panavision orders 200 units to protect their Optics based leadership in the Camera market !!!
4K capture to 4K display as " Nightly review shows " projected to the size of 60 foot cinema screen will be so good to share the " JOY " in the largest population nation - CHINA
Few thousand Broadcast HD cameras are shipping now there anyway !!!

I don't like to name names simply out of respect for other people's privacy but he used to work for Hoodoo films as a producer, when it was up and produced a number of music videos for big name talent. Anyways, I interned at the outfit he's with now last year for about 8 months and told him about RED. Now he's really keen on giving one a try. :-)

"There is a rumor that Panavision orders 200 units "
panavision has stated that is NOT true ... one of their other rental unit they own does have a order in for 5? ... they stated when those are received they will test the RED - based on those test and if they have request from clients they would decide when/if panavsion will be renting Reds ...

No what I mean is there's a Canadian producer that I know of who's interested in RED for commercial use.

From what I hear, Sim Video should have their first cameras before New Years. They will undergo serious testing and analysis by Sim's engineers first before being release for client rental. Much like the Sim Modified Viper (http://simvideola.com/images/Feature_Viper_Venom2.jpg) REPOST: This article explains all (http://www.2-pop.com/artman2/publish/Sim_Video_Invests_in_RED_ONE.shtml)

I wonder if Panavision is holding off on ordering Reds because they directly compete with their (multi-million dollar) Genesis cameras. I was told, however, they are getting so many queries that they may not be able to live without getting some. I believe Plus8 digital already had some Red reservations when Panavision bought them, so I suspect they will add those to the inventory as they become available.
Rob Sim told me they are happy to wait for a more finished camera as the beta issues are worked out with the first batch. Workflow is still the biggest issue - it's great to give their customers a 4k camera, but if no one can work with the footage it isn't very useful. I heard it would take something like 24 Quad-core Macs to be able to render the 4K datastream in realtime.
