View Full Version : Frustration, and how to deal....

Like so many of you, I love the concept of RED, and I love the company that Jim has started. I am also deeply frustrated. I want my camera, I want my accessories, I have SO MANY questions, and so few answers.

I am sharing this to tell you the one thing that calms me down and makes me smile.

This waiting, this frustration… It’s my fault!! Actually it’s our fault. Jim has not only lead, he’s followed. He’s watched us as a group of customers and gauged what we would put up with vs. what we would not stand for.

Not only is Jim a great guy, but all of you are FANTASTIC customers (I hope I may count myself among you). You are what every business dreams of, patient, kind, incredibly supportive, and damn smart.

I believe it’s because of you/us that Jim released the camera as quickly as he did. He believed that we would understand the unfinished nature of the camera and as long as he was honest, we would respect his decisions. And we have.

Make no mistake, if he had started his policy of “openness” and had gotten a negative reaction or a bunch of conspiracy theories, we would not have a camera right now, and there would be NO release schedule. Simply a “coming soon”.

The camera is not done. It’s simply done enough to use in some circumstances. I believe (Personally) that by year’s end, we will be through 90% of this, and we’ll all be proud we made the trip together.

Enjoy this if you can, then we can all say “we remember when”

The waiting isn't bad at all - I'd rather wait to have things ironed out than get a camera too soon. Meanwhile, shoot with whatever you're using today! I still love my Hvx + Brevis setup just fine

Hi Obin,

Maybe you can rent a Red from one of the early res holders.

I've been contacted by a few redusers who want to rent before they get there's.... I'm going to try to help them out.... something to consider. Shoot me a PM if want.

Nice post Jay.

I do feel a real sense of comunity here.

Watching our Canadian dollar reach parity and getting everything cheaper couldn't have happened without the delays. I've already saved over $5k on my entire package since the delays began. Analysts are expecting it to rise another five to seven cents in the coming month.

I am anything BUT frustrated!

Red #41 is back and available. I'm bummed - I am stuck in a backlog of edits (even weekends now) and the camera should really be getting out more! I'd consider, at this point, renting even without me as DP/AC/DIT to the right people (gentle on cameras) with the right insurance.

You can go to my website and click on Red Camera to see what's available (no EVF or drive yet tho - gotta update that)

Then just PM me.

Hey Craig.... LOL

One mans pleasure may be an others pain.

I'm glad you've had a good break, but things here in the USA are Not good.

Also, how is RED going to keep prices down with such a weak dollar and out sourcing parts from all around the world? I'm just saying, "Careful what you wish for".

Easy to deal with fustration, just consider that every week you wait more features are enabled and bugs fixed.

I still vote for not delivering the second 50 REDs until Christmas, instead keeping the first 50 working hard on a wide range of projects.

Once Jim starts rolling out cameras at a rate of hundreds per month major hardware updates (hopefully not required!!) would take a long time to be rectified at the factory.

I'm all for the second 50 REDs being released as scheduled (I need to develop my bug ironing skillz) :) and then hold the rest until christmas, heck ramadan! Actually, Valentine's day is already got the same colour scheme, and this has all been more or less a mass love affair, no?

Being early adaptors we signed up for a camera that is in development. This most always comes with delays and bugs to be worked out. We climb aboard with the knowledge of these conditions; the carrot being our desire to obtain a new and wonderful tool. Desperation, disappointment, or heavy anticipation would indicate ignorance of what we signed up for.
