This is not a complaint about FedEx. In contrary, I had a very good experience with FedEx concerning the temporary export for MX upgrade. They were very helpful and reliable!
Maybe this helps others:
Itīs not FedEx who is responsible about the temporary export papers. Itīs THE CUSTOMS. In some european countries FedEX offers the service to get everything sorted out with customs, in others not.
My advice is following:
-Make sure you have all the documents from Red (Warranty/Repair, Proforma Invoice, RMA) and your original import papers ready.
-Contact your local or nearest FedEx office. Ask them about the person(s) they deal with at customs. Contact this person and explain your case. In most cases they want to have a freight number (tracking number). So this you have to clear with FedEx. Can be a bit difficult to sort this out, because its a bit the story who was first, the egg or the chicken. But with the right attitude and some kindness Iīm sure you make the same experiences like me at the FedEx office. After you got your freight number you go back to customs and get your temporary export paper. Maybe you have to pay a fee at customs for the documents. I paid twice, once for export, once for import. Back at the FedEx office you make sure this papers are marked/added to your delivery.
Once at Red upgrade center, wait for the MX (very fast!!!) and the tracking number back to you.
NOW I STRONGLY CONSIDER: DON`T WAIT UNTIL FEDEX KNOCKS ON YOUR DOOR!!!
While the cam is on transit back to you, already call FedEX and ask them when it will arrive in the office and tell them you will come for a local pickup, remind them again it was a temporary export and you would like to sort out customs/ VAT with them before they hand out the package to the driver. After or before that call the same person at customs and tell them your camera comes back. Give her/him the tracking number.
The day it arrives be early enough in the FedEx office (donīt forget the export documents with export tracking number, copies of the Warranty/ Repair and Proforma Invoice from RED)...
Itīs a lot of work (in my case 3 days, 1600km driving...hehe), but the MX upgrade is worth it...
Iīm in love with this new sensor!

Hope this helps,

Marc
