Hello guys, we just installed a new red rocket into a mac 8-core with 6gb ram in slot number 2. Everything goes well but when i open up RedCine-X build 256, something like this shows up.

"Your red rocket firmware version is 1.1.4 while the version 1.1.8.6 is needed."

I've updated the firmware through the terminal and it says update to 1.1.8.6 is complete, power off and then restart. But even after all that it doesn't work and because of that we cant playback full 4k in realtime. The system PCI-e shows up RedRocket installed with its driver.

Thanks.

Power down and check the DIP switches on your Rocket card. Perhaps they are in"safe-mode" for programming (all OFF except #8 ON). Normally they should be all OFF. I had the same problem and tech support sent me a diagram.

Hi, I'm having another issue when trying to upgrade the firmware.
I get this message: "SV_ERROR_IOCTL_FAILED. An ioctl operation failed.
ERROR:"
Any Ideas? I'm stuck on older builds of redcine-x until I get this solved.

check the dip switches... Also install the latest drivers BEFORE you attempt the firmware update. It seems by that error, you may possibly have a PCIe addressing conflict.

This is the error you get if you're running the old driver. Install the new driver first, then upgrade the firmware.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the tips.
I had the latest driver installed. Pulled the card out and tried in a freshly installed osx, which worked fine. So I wiped the problem machine and installed osx again. Now it works beautifully.

I've got the same problem and I would like to do this but I'm not able to locate and check the DIP switches on the card, I only worked on external DIP switches on external cards, where are they on the Rocket.
Thans in advance to everyone would help me!

Hi Carlo,

If I'm looking at the right thing they are really tiny and they are on the "back" of the card on the top near the top edge furthest from DVI ports. Essentially on the back behind the SDI B out connector.

I'm having the same issue and am working through it now.

This is what Red tech support sent me, but you should contact them:

I've been having this same "SV_ERROR_DRIVER_MEMORYINIT, On card memory init failed." Really not cool, I've sent it to red support 2 times. Both times they said it was fine. Thought it was a bad PCIe expansion chasis, returned it and started running it straight off the mainboard in the macpro. Worked for about a month and a half, and now it's back to the same exact antics. I'm gonna give support a piece of my mind Monday morning, it's really making me look like an as* hole on set today. Not cool to charge production for something that blatantly is not working and impeding my job function.

It could be a combination of things that's the cause and we may not see that when we run tests on it back at the Lab. It's very hard to know without having your exact system. We'd be happy to take a look again and I'll follow up with support.
Email me at deanan at red.

Thanks for the response Deanan! Just so I don't waste anyone at support's time, I'm currently dealing with Jonathan. Hopefully it will be fixed this time. thanks.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue today. Pain in the butt. I posted in another thread and actually just emailed Deanan. looking for any help I can get. Tried the dip switches, different PCI slots, everything. Worked perfectly fine last night, and now nothing today on set. Still shows in system profiler, but RCXpro doesn't see the card....

Gentlemen,

I believe I have discovered the issue. It's the drivers. I rolled back to 1.4.7.0 driver and 1.1.14.38 firmware and the card loads in RCX-pro Build 3. I'm staying on this driver and firmware and calling it good. I believe this is the solution to this issue.

These can be found here on the left side half way down. Click the 1.4.7 link for your OS.
https://www.red.com/support/all/downloads/19/release_history#1.4.7

If you still encounter the error, take out the RR card, flip the #8 switch on the bottom left back side of the card, to the opposite direction of the others (right), install the card, install the driver, shutdown, power up, install the firmware, shutdown, take out the RR card again, flip the #8 switch back to the LEFT (so it's the same as all the others) and then install the card again, power back up, and WAMMO! RR loads in RCX. IF it still isn't loading, make sure to click the rocket icon in RCX and enable it for encoding by click the check mark in the pop-up.

It took a little digging, OCD, and patience but it works again.

Best,
Fred

Hi all,

I've tried Fred B's method and rolled back to 1.4.7.0 driver and 1.1.14.38 firmware. The RedRocket card still doesn't seem to be working. I can't play back 100fps Epic footage even at 1/4 resolution. But when I turned off the red rocket in RCX I could playback the video at 1/2 res for 100fps just using the Macbook Pro's system. If anyone could let me know where in the system profiler I can look for if the RedRocket card is recognise? Or if someone could help me out by showing me a screenshot of what I should be looking for, that'll be great. Thanks!

I am using Macbook Pro Lion OS X Version 10.7.1. Does the RedRocket 1.4.7.0 driver and 1.1.14.38 firmware work well with the Lion OS or is there another driver and firmware that is more compatible with the OS?
Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Jean Anne

my card just stopped working today.... I tried to download the latest drivers and firmware today and am getting this same error "SV_ERROR_DRIVER_MEMORYINIT," on mac w 10.6.8 tried in safe mode and tried other drivers and firmware. Nothing seems to work. WTF? My last ditch effort will be to wipe the system. This happened to me a few months ago. I took out the rocket card and put in one from a working system(i have two rocket cards and two mac pros) bingo after hrs of trouble shooting it turned out it was a bad card. I sent it in and they gave me a new one. Wow. super frustrating!!!!@#%$#@%$@%$#@%$# I dont have my other card w me to test right now. Weird. worked fine turned computer off. powered on a few days later and card is jacked!!!
