While we are a bit behind, new features are about a week away in a new firmware build (that we hope is bug-free!).

Included are:

2k Windowed at 72fps (100fps is a few weeks behind)
Playback
Genlock
Waveform
... and a few other goodies

Audio has been moved into October.

We are making progress.

Jim:

Has the passion become a grind yet, or is the motivation still as strong?

Jim,
You guys don't stop. Wasn't there an ambush this weekend? You bring gifts while others throw mud. Appreciate the dedication at red and thanks for truly being an example of what a stand up guy is.

Regards.
All the best to you and yours.

Jim...a little off topic question from this thread subject:

I need an insider tip from you.

Should I invest in an Arri follow focus now, or survive without it and bet on that something interesting comes from you within 6-12 months? : )

Thanks!

Ah yeah!!!! I've been dying for playback and higher fps.

What about monitor out options that aren't mutually exclusive with the LCD/EVF? That's actually top of my wish list at the moment.

Holy schnikes! I thought you guys had playback all along! You guys are good.
Love the new features. Feel free to recapture the Funny Car and "this is how we roll" footage when audio is enabled!

Playback would be fantastic... 2k windowed at 72 fps is not too shabby either.

Great news.....again and again and again. Keep rolling on out the presents Jim. You keep giving, now all we have to do is give back to you with some badass footage and just as much motivation.

Subject to change.... nothing wrong with that... but seriously, there will be more delays... to improve the product for the rest of us... even Silicon Valleys's dream sports car, the Tesla, just got delayed 3 month... stuff happens... but please stop expecting the current forecasts... add 1-3 months to it, be happy if it shows up sooner.

I have been around business long enough in Silicon Valley, that no NEW breakthrough tech ever comes out on time and bug free. Sony did not want PS3 late and they are a huge company.

RED is a small start up with good backing... but I always thought RED would need 1-3 months of major BETA testing and am actually glad at RED #217 to be pushed back to Nov 30th, but Im expecting 50/50 chance for Jan 1 and 1/3 for FEB, etc... all of this is good in that I do not want flaws in my camera and I'd rather see them found, and fixed here... rather than on my budget in the field... so it saves me time and money... I just have to wait...

Just like buying a car, It's usually smart to wait until the 2nd year for them to get the bugs out... a few months with the iphone or a year or 2 with the first Mac or OS X. For those who want to go for it... do it... but for the rest of us... expect delays as Jim says.... add 1-3 months and cross your fingers and be happy when the find/fix a bug and add 1-3 weeks - since that could have just save you lots of money and pain.

gulp. help me with my math, its late. i'm #1929 (timestamped #429 1st day of NAB 07). if i was expecting it feb 10th for a huuuuge shoot--before the 2 week delay--when should I be safe? Do you think every addition of a feature set will add more of a delay?

It's probably not wise to plan a big shoot for the second you get your camera. Ship dates are tentative and you will need time to learn the workflow and how to best work with the camera.

when should I be safe? Do you think every addition of a feature set will add more of a delay?

You will be safe when you get a notice from us that your camera has been scheduled to ship.

Maybe you'll catch a break here. I've been told that any #'s received with the NAB orders don't correspond to the queue. With 1475 orders pre NAB, and you ordering the first day, maybe you'll be in the January delivery group.

I hope so, anyway, since I ordered the first second the system would allow it the first day at NAB, and can't see why I wouldn't be in that group.

I just thought it was interesting to note that I have been closely following three projects that I consider breakthroughs, that are close to my heart if not my wallet (since I can't afford two out of three of them).

These are (in order of introduction) the iPhone, the RED and the Tesla Roadster. All are revolutionary in their own way, and none have arrived on time. (In theory the iPhone did, but it was clear they had to divert huge engineering resources to do it, which would mean a big delay for any smaller company. And it did in fact cause a major delay for Leopard, so I think it's fair to say that none of these projects have been without significant delays).

I'm just glad there are people out there like Steve and Jim and Martin who are determined to do the impossible and have the guts and chutzpah needed to win even under what seem like impossible odds.

I know the delays are annoying but we are living in an age with incredible people and amazingly great products and I think we should all be happier for this.

All I can say is AMAZING!

Jim, you and Red are a breath of fresh air in the world of technology. You've made a product that is a the stuff of dreams, one that is upgradeable and modular. One that is not going to be out of date in 6 months. One that gives the capability of taking the RAW footage from the sensor and giving it to the operator. DSLR's have done this for years and the Pros couldn't/wouldn't live without it.

I wish the so-called 'big fish' would take note. Its sickening to have a product that is upgraded one month after I buy it, but I can't upgrade it! You've proved it can be done.

Please stay with this path you've taken. Thanks for putting the Red user first.

no, no, i was planning on giving myself a month to learn the camera after i receive it. too big of a shoot. now itll be 2 weeks unless theres more of a delay. if so, i'll push back.
