anyone checked out this matte box? I was holding out for the red rock, and while this one is ALSO not out, the guy says it only a couple weeks away. He says the closest thing to it is an Arri MB 20.

check it out and tell me what all you smart people think about it.

Why does he liken it to the MB 20 as opposed to any other mattebox?

The one problem I see with this mattebox, is that of the three trays it has, two are 4x4 and one (the static one) is 4x5.65.

They also have a FF unit on there. I wonder what quality that might be (thought you can find used Arri units fro under $1500, so it's almost not worth it.)

Is it made of plastic like their HD model?

Looks like their new X mattebox is the same design as their HD one and same plastic with aluminum build, but slightly larger. Construction looks cheap, the mount and swing arm look like they could break just by looking at them... IMO, I'd much rather spend $500 on the RedRock unit when it's available here soon and I'm hoping CVB will deliver something even greater (MB20 equivalent or hopefully better) for under $1500.

alright, thanks guys. I really need a matte box ASAP. Anyone have ANY info on when the Red Rock one is coming around? Also, I guess quite a few people have reservations, what do you think the wait will be?

this looks NOTHING like an MB-20.. its plastic and looks cheap.
It probably wouldn't even be wide enough for cine lenses.. save your money.
