View Full Version : RED for live broadcast issue

I was asked by a friend to help solve his live broadcast problem.

The problem: The RED is in a studio, and audio is connected to a sound mixing board. While the RED will record both picture and audio in sync, the live monitoring has about a 1/4 second delay in the audio. I know there is a slight delay in the live monitoring (about one frame), but that's ok if we can get the audio to match. Any suggestions and also what other gear is needed to make this a good workflow.

Thanks,

Von

Why not bypass the Red directly? You can come out of the sound mixer directly to the Red AND to your destination at the same time. So you can record the audio on the Red and send it out live. Use a D?A if needed.

Otherwise you need to get a SDI delay box. With that you'd be able to delay the SDI signal for a number of frames to let the audio catch up. Youd need to figure out the exact amount of the delay through a lot of testing.

Its much simpler to go the direct audio route, and then your not relying on the 1/4" connection.

If I want the route of a delay box, do you happen to know a brand?

Q: Are you taking video and audio from the camera over HD-SDI or video over HD-SDI and audio over XLR ?

Video and audio are currently coming over HD-SDI.
