This is a question for a true lens tech or very experienced knowledgeable lens person please.
I have a 32mm Ziess superspeed that has gone out on me twice in 2 weeks.
What we noticed the first time was at over 20 feet and longer it would need to go to infinity to keep focus.
Lens was sent back and it was sent back to us fixed.
two weeks later similar issue not not exact same issue.
This time I personally tested it with a focus chart to see how bad it is.
A 6 foot chart would need to be set at 5.5 feet and a 20 foot chart would be at 15 feet to keep focus.
I am no lens tech so I dont have any idea what is going on here but what i noticed by meir chance was a ring was spinning freely and beyond loose on the rear part of the lens.
Can anybody tell me what this part does / is it suppose to be finger tight or super tight / what locks it into place is there a pin or a screw that keeps it in place.
I know that a Lens place should be the only people to play with it but I wanted to understand for my own knowledge please.
I have included a picture with a piece of orange tape with a U on it. The tape shows what is spinning. Its a tapered screw on black thingy with machine marks. Only the black piece spins freely.
THE lens has been sent in for repair so to say send it back is not what im looking for. Im looking to learn from some cool guys in here what that is does and so on.
thanks in advanced guys.
