Wow! ...that's a bit scary, were you actually running the camera? Looks like you'd be feeling some prop wash at the end there.

I guess we all know that if you didn't take risks, there would be no RED...

At the very last frame with just blue sky, is there a blurry dust spot at the exact center? It is a low contrast fuzzy area, for most of it with the plane in-frame, I couldn't tell if it was there.

Was anyone else thinking about Catch 22 when they saw that? :)

Jim, you are crazy, but we all know that....Great shot. Sort of reminds me of the Great Train Robbery train shot, where the audience all ran out of the show because they thought the train was going to hit them.

looks like dirt on the sensor?

jbeale
09-27-2007, 06:05 PM
how can you tell the difference between a spot on the sensor and a spot on the lens?

The plane shot reminds me a bit of when I got my first video camera, one of the first things I did was take a shot of a train going by. But I was using a wide-angle lens and looking only through the viewfinder confused my sense of how far away from the tracks I was. When the train passed by I was actually knocked over by the rush of air.

Century has a 0.3x fisheye adapter that the skateboard crowd calls a "death lens" and I can kind of see why.

The spot is some crap on the IR/LP filter. It is next to improbable to get stuff on the sensor. It is in a sealed chamber with the IR/LP filter in front of it. And it is pretty easy to clean the front of the filter. This shot proves that I am either pretty lazy, didn't see it, or saw it and my short attention span kicked in and I forgot. I'm voting for the latter.

So, does the pilot call in to make sure nobody is using the firing range before he pops up over the hill? A .50 cal through the windshield could be a little distracting.

Jarred... rebuttal?
Ya gotta love the internal RED rivalry!
I'm lovin' the footage, but still waiting for something to make me shit my pants clean off. Bring it on!

BTW... curious if these clips are part of a larger project in the works

It's so clean and smooth it almost looks like it's a 3D generated image.

It is becoming more and more difficult not to put money down. I can't ... sh!t. Once all the current reservations are fulfilled, how is the camera going to be offered at that point?

Price hike, or what? Production on a camera by camera basis? I keep asking these questions like a friggin' parrot/broken record...and the only reason is because no one's answering. What's up with that? Should I just post in all the threads? :w00t:

Dude man! Order one already! Just put money down on the body. Worry about the lens and accessories later. But for now, anybody interested out there, put money down on a body, it will save your ass in line, only will ring you $1750, and is completely refundable if you get cold feet.

Just order one, you can't lose..

because even though red is gaining steam now, i feel like the word still isn't out.. when they have 1000+ cameras on the market, your sister and grandmother are going to kill for one and they won't get it unless Red builds a death star big enough to accommodate everyone

Why do they want to build a Death Star???

So they can kill everyone that wants one?

Why wouldn't they not want to build a death star Garth..

Like my grandpa always said...gotta stay ahead of the game.

Yeah bro, I don't really get the analogy...but funny as hell nonetheless.

I'm know I'm going to do it...I can't stand not to. Thank you for the encouragement sir.

But I'd still like Jim, or someone at RED, to address the questions I've posed. I mean that's a lot of cash to outlay. Although it doesn't seem to phase a lot of filmmakers to roast marshmallows over an open fire with 100 dollar bills for tinder, that'll put a serious cramp in my stomach.

Sorry I'm skittish Jim, but I'm sure there was a time you might be able to remember when the Cristal wasn't flowing from the sky (well, maybe not). Anyway, I'm only trying to make sure I'm making a good choice, and that I'll be able to acquire the camera later should I choose to wait. What are your production plans for the camera once all the reservations have been fulfilled?

Like others, I'm in love with what you've done with this camera. It's the ultimate tool for any serious filmmaker, yet you're offering it at a price for the budding filmmaker. Tremendous. I can't get over it.

The way I see it though, is, right now if you reserved a camera, you wouldn't have to pony up the rest of the cash until sometime April 2008. That is 7 months away. By that time, enough cameras will be on the market to make clear judgments, have questions answered, workflow.. etc. etc.

The refundable deposit is the best marketing strategy. It gives you peace of mind because it holds your place and gives you that option of stepping out of line without consequence. I'd order one soon.. I remember when Red announced their $1K deposits back in April 2006. I waited a few months, making up my own reasons about why I did or did not want to put money down. I finally did after realizing that I could refund at any time for any reason. I am glad I made that decision at the time but wish I would have acted sooner. go with your gut. reserve! haha - i'm hopped up on a bunch of prescribed pain meds. excuse the poor analogies and rambling..
