Does this EPIC from the "Focus" recon htread seem to have an updated air intake grill? (The area around & above the Red logo under the lense):

If it does that may mean this is the new version with the 1/2" added to the back.

I really hope they make the red colored screws standard...

:frown2:

I'd prefer mine black.

There is something different though.. Look down below the lens on the front of the Epic.. Just above to the right of the RED logo... What is that?

Just testing a bunch of different grills. You haven't seen the one most likely to come with the camera.

Am I seeing something else then Jarred?

The last photos I saw of Epic still had the vertical air-intake grille slots:

Whereas that Epic shot seems to have a circular/radius shape to the the upper right of the logo:

Am I seeing something in front of the grille maybe?

Or maybe is the grille just not attached, and I'm seeing the internal fans (as you can kind of make out THRU the grille in this shot?)

Thanks.

None of these shots represent the final one.

And how does the evenly illuminated high resolution final one looks like?

I wish we had time to show every detail of each piece as it goes through development. Now that would be something... :-)

Something tells me we're up for a surprise on RED.com?

Or maybe it's just wishful thinking...

An evolutionary timelapse would be awesome. Starting with Frankie

Sorry my bad,.. it's the same grill just a cosmetic modification. As Jim said, thats not the final grill.

Will the final grills look like this?

That's nice to hear - grill design actually has a huge influence on efficient airflow.

I just worked with the Alexa briefly, and the larger fan is really nice and quiet.

Thanks Gents.

Certainly not asking you to stop and indulge our every curiosity... it was just he first time I had seen that design, and I wondered if it was new along with the body re-work that added the xtra depth...

Appreciate the new info with the recent posts, Jarred & Jim. I know development have made it less "desireable" to post details for us, but I for one really appreciate the willingness to let us enjoy the development ride along the way.

That shot of Scarlet... MMmmmm...

I like what this statement inplies :)

Will Red be selling spare fans, as they are meant to be user replaceable, or are they readily available mass market fans - which would be even better?

Stuart English

You'd like a spare fan with you - "just in case" ?

Steven Caesare

Well Stuart, this is the second or third time it's been mentioned that you can pour water down the sealed cooling tunnel and not hurt the camera electronics... you KNOW sooner or later somebody's gonna try that and find themselves in need of a new set of fans...

+1

Buying a spare fan set is the first thing I thought of after learning they were user-replaceable.

Is that a RED tripod the Fixed 8x Scarlet is on? or just has RED stickers on it?

It's commical what a sticker on a t-pod (with manfrotto badges) does to people on this forum hehe. You guys just do that to mess with everyone a little don't ya...
