Just a thought...
Who will shoot the first feature with RED? What will the first theatrical release be?
What studio will be first to release a film shot on RED? First direct to DVD release?
The first doc? Who will shoot the first music video on RED? Shooting, releasing?
Just thinking...

Well,
Billy, with your number 13, what do you plan shoot first?
I have a feature project I'd love to shoot on a RED in June.

Well...
RedRyan, Your prospects are better than mine. I've got a feature coming up in March/April (based on Actor availability). And I am in NO way planning on shooting with RED. However, I have "warned" production about the possibility of shooting with RED, only in the unlikely event that the camera actually becomes available. Then we'll have lots of fun while "dialing in" the camera on set, whoohoo! :D

Im planning on shooting a music video, documentary and then a feature - in that order depending on when RED actually comes out and what lenses I have at my disposable and of course if my script is finished :-)

I've got a feature set for July with no FX so the turnaround could be quick. The director's a dream in editing so that process will move along as well.
Otherwise, trying to line something up before then, a possible short with a 35mm filmout in April, a possible feature in April. Another short hopefully in June ... basically whatever comes first will probably get a 'free upgrade' so I can play.

Right out of the gate I'll be shooting some HDTV adventure travel, alternative sports, and nature programs in an action/doc style. Simultaneous with that I'll be shooting stock footage in a wide variety of subjects and geographical areas. Almost all shooting of any kind will be in 4k REDCODE RAW and some 2k REDCODE RAW. My first RED is #8, so samples of my footage will surface very quickly. Shortly after that I'll spread my production out to features, commercials, etc., usually producing/directing, but on smaller gigs I'll also be shooting. When I have time, my favorite thing is to head out by myself and shoot stock footage.
Sidenote: I also write tech and people/project profile articles for several film and television magazines. As soon as RED One ships I'll begin writing articles featuring RED One cameras in action on interesting projects - not my own projects, but other people's projects. Ideas and suggestions for that are welcome. They should be submitted by email, with a subject line of "RED article idea".

I'm currently familiarising myself with the ways of 35mm cinema.. my background is production... so i've never really shot an ad.. a music cid.. or did a serious gig for a serious company that I was the dop/ director for. Always was the production man. so... familiarising myself with follow focusing.. rigging.. shooting.. etc... filmography.. and mainly.. mainly.. scriptwriting and directing. RIGHT now im focusing on scriptwriting and directing. How to figure actors out.. and how to give em advice while on set. and the script writing part.. I'm still working on it.. getting to know writers.. give them my stuff to read and edit.. give me their opinion.. etc.
I'm Planning on a short flick called Dirham. Around 15-20 Minutes. But i'm still in the process of figuring if I can take it up to a feature or not. But then I don't want to go over my head with my first drama release... I want to test it out.. and figure out from the audience where I screwed up.
LEARN. + LEARN of the ways to releasing a feature flick.
Then go ahead, produce the feature... maybe direct it... maybe.

If I get my RED by May or June, I'll try and shoot a short in the Summer here in AZ. That will put some test to my resolve and the cameras heat dissipation. Shooting in AZ in the Summer is a pain in the ass, but I want to play around with it for sure.
then I'll try to shoot one of the spec commercials I've been wanting to do.
With that amount of practice using the camera it will be time to dig in with a very cinematic short film that I might try and do in the fall. This is one that I might want to test for film out, but i'll let a few others test that route first. :)
After that I'm planning a feature in 2008, but next week is about as far out as I can plan at this point.

I'm developing a feature that will hopefully shoot in New Mexico in the summer on my Red. I have some commercial producers already intrested too.

I am going to shoot a 10 minute action short at 4k -60hz. Then I am going to distribute it over bittorrent in H264 and WMV-HD formats. People can then use it to demo their HD and "higher than HD" equipment....

Come June I am planning to take my RedOne #19 on a trip from San Diego to Seattle to Idaho to Utah to Colorado to Arizona and back hitting every National Park and other spectacular sight I can find on a major stock footage expedition. It will allow me to get really familar with the camera before I have it on set with the high blood pressure patrol sweatin' my narrow behind.
No disrespect to the Red Team but the first couple of months I anticipate some shakedown issues.
Anybody want to suggest a great lens for scenics, taking into account the 1.6 conversion factor? I'm looking for edge to edge sharpness, minimal pincusioning or other geometric distortion, low color fringing, don't care too much about the speed.

I think I've got a while as I wait for my RED #1110... But my initial plans are similar to Blair's. Lots of scenery, wildlife, local events, etc... Anything I can point the camera at to get it all figured out. I don't know if I'll travel out of state much (so much stuff to look at right here in Colorado), but I may do Arizona or head the other direction to Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota... Depending on when I get the camera and how my schedule looks, I may just take it to YellowStone. I'd love to take it to Alaska too and I've been meaning to head back that way soon. Hopefully by the time I get my hands on RED, the camera will be on Discovery's and National Geographic's approved lists or maybe I can be one more contributor to help on the way to approval. ...I don't see that being an issue though.
I've got a couple ideas for shorts and one or two longer features. I don't know how those will relate to RED as they depend on some other factors too.

I just plan on looking at it for the first month then I'll shoot something like a kids soccer game. just kidding I have a Martial Arts Documentary in the works (currently converting 8-mm & 16-mm footage over so I can start editing) so by the time I get my Red #1076 I should be ready to start shooting the final pieces in the fall. Plus I'll do a few music videos to old school tunes just to get use to the red work flow.

Thanks Shawn. In spite of it's flexibility and formats, RED One should be a fairly easy camera system to use - especially for those who have a background in manual camera shooting and DSLR RAW shooting. RED has also said they intend to keep menu clutter down, which will simplify use of RED One.
Writing a RED User's Guide would be a big project! I could do it, but I have a big slate of projects for 2007 and beyond. Because of the time factor involved, If I did it, I'd seek the input of multiple other people, and effectively team-write and co-edit it with them. If I don't do it, I'll still post lots of input, news, and feedback on RED One after I take delivery and put it to work.
Can't wait!
