Hi,
Am an independant filmmaker from India.
Does anyone have an idea of how much will it cost approximately in indian currency for the base production unit and also can someone throw some light on the customs charges that will be levied on the camera.
Thanks.

I'm awaiting a possible deal with Farah Khan, the director of "Om Shanti Om".

There are many very big people in Bollywood taking notice of RED and it's beauty.

The question is, will the films look any better with RED than with 35mm? Just saw the latest Bollwyood film (Welcome) in 35mm and the print (from DI) was crap. They often are. But then again, some films look world class already without RED. Talent, knowledge and dedication come first. equipment second.

Miha,

Film is analog and you can scan and take any resoultion you want say you can scan even in 8k if system available and the latitude of film much higher.

All digital cameras till date talks about 1080i/p or 2K where RED is the first one to talk about 4K and there are whole lot of discussions going on in this forum about the digital noise RED produce.

Please read this blog post http://prolost.blogspot.com/2008/02/digital-cinema-dynamic-range-short.html before coming to any conclusion.

Has anyone ordered from Mumbai?

I cannot speak for the cameras, but we have recently sold more than a dozen SCRATCH systems in Mumbai. I know that part of this was for RED workflow.

Best,

Right !!!!! The 4k digital filming with RED is going to set the industry standard very soon. ................ I am in process of getting one very soon.

I was there with the demo session by ASSIMILATE, in mumbai. It was very impressive.

I'm working on a film in Chennai with 3 cameras - 2 of which are locally owned. Met with several labs out here who have Scratch systems and have been running numerous Red tests.

Can't see how this relates to my posting. As I said, you can produce crap with RED and 35mm and you can make world class imagery with both as well. The average Bollywood prints I see don't look good for various reasons.
