I finally joined the union, and proud to say, it was a good move.

I am very interested in joining as well. How expensive is it to join at a DIT? Thanks!

Brian,
I think it is around $8000 to join, but they can give discounts and have payment plan options. It is expensive. Talk to you local rep and see what they will do for you. It seems like they really just want your money.
That said, the quality of projects between union and non-union is generally HUGE! Producers have to treat you right. No 20 hour flat rate days with 4 hour turn around. Union shows have to pay if they want to do something stupid like that, but my experience with non-union, stuff like that was the norm. And the pay rate is generally better on union shows.
Plus the benefits are great once you qualify for them.
It is expensive and they don't get you any work, but allow you to work their shows.
It has been great for me since I joined a couple years ago.
