Where is that location? Is that Highway 168 leading out of Big Pine?
BTW, really nice stuff.

One more question for MagGregor and Brooke. What's the camera mounted on for the feet running shot? What was the shutter speed? And did you use any post stabilization in the piece?

No "e" in the name.
Mac laid on his chest out the back of the Hummer and held the camera. It was safetied with some ratchet straps. This was the first shot that I witnessed while being in UT... needless to say it was a fun if nerve-wracking introduction to Mac's style. :)
The shutter was at least 1/500... maybe shorter.

why is this even called Nike guys , or nike commercial ?
Nike is a huge brand ,world trade marked etc so just how is all this even releated to Nike ... this group started out shooting a short .. then in middle of their shoot they stated they were shooting a nike commercial ... then later they call it a "spec" nike commercial ( made by students) ... the project has no authorization to use NIKE name or likeness .... wouldn't a "fake shoe spot" fit the project better ?
a spec commercial is when you come up with a IDEA for a specific product or generic product - you make the spot and then you send it to a ad agency or the shoe manufacturer ( in this case Nike) before you show it to the public - a ad agency will not consiider buying a spec spot that has already been shown to general public ...
in general i like the spot the group created ( though i think i've seen something like it on TV last year ) what i don't like is the use of the NIKE name ... if you have worked for Nike then you know they are very protective of the use of their name ...
this spot seems to be a show piece for indivdual reels and not really a spec spot ....

It seems like you totally missed the deleted thread, donatello. We've been through that already.

What? You can't say Nike in a discussion board? I thought that was the whole point of advertising.

Oh sorry Brook.
Others:
Please do not hijack another thread. This thread is about discussing the details of the production, regardless of their content or intent.
Ahem.
Brook,
I've done that move laying on the bed of a pickup with an HVX, trying to get the lense as close to the pavement as possible. The extra long top handle for RED should be really good for that type of shot: both hands on top.
In any case good stuff. I was discussing a commercial with a client who does custom skateboards, snow and surf. I was talking to him about RED and showed him the #23 clips and your piece. And he was not only sold on RED but we also liked the style of your piece...as we are trying to get away from the MTV style to smarter and more deliberate stuff. N!K@ should hire you.

As much as I wish I could take credit for the look of any of this footage, I was not involved in the creative end of this project... Just the technical. Thus is all Mac and Zak's creativity and eye.

I'm glad they chose to get the Nike shoes, as I have always ran with Nike shoes, so it was cool to be the one running in a test like we did. It's touch to shoot behind the scenes photos of a scene where you are the actor. We were on the 93 mostly running south about 2 miles from Wendover, UT. Thanks Brook for your quick responses. PS I have a picture of the set up we had for the low angle shot. I can post it if people want to see.
