I agree.
I'm waiting on pre-production for this 24-hour festival I'm entering hits on Friday. Then I'll be feeling good again. I feel bad when I'm not in the creative process.
Looks like it's time to take the old JVC 110 for a spin...

I've been wondering how people have been doing with their groundbreaking script masterpieces...so much anticipation about getting the camera units but of course there should be something worthwhile shooting, no?

Hi Torrie,
Not everybody here will be doing narrative for a living, why the sarcastic dig?

Yeah, I most likely took that the wrong way. See, I am a cameraman and it has been awhile since I have worked with real glass... I am dying to get my hands on this camera and explore... I guess it could be a case of RED Fatigue... but posts from owners help alot. I should be more patient.
Sorry, I was grumpy... where is my apple sauce? :innocent:

I am one of those odd ducks who is a combination of techno junkie and creative mind...I write, produce, and direct for my living and have had to laugh at some of the thread counts and wonder if some people are actually putting their time to use while they await the arrival of their camera(s).
I'm not saying others do not work for a living, rather I am curious to see if there are in fact any creatives who are pounding the keyboard to get their scripts in shape to possibly shoot in '08. I have at least three, but are in various stages of completing their financing.

OK - I changed a lot of code today to tidy it up and make it more consistent and easier to extend / debug and use.
I added a new button to the REDAlert! GUI.
Is that the sort of information you want? :-)
We're busy you see - coding away, testing, inventing, supporting customers, you know, that sort of thing. Somedays we'll have lots to talk about and tell you all about, other days, it's just work, necessary work, but not the exciting to go on about....

Having followed Graeme's speaker project from afar for awhile now, I am very interested to 'see' how they end up working out. These types of projects can be a wonderful distraction from the day to day drudgery of real jobs!
But remember, don't forget to check the fuse...

Hi Torrie,
I am not sure you are such an odd duck here, we were all driven to put a deposit down on the RED--most were not, so we must all be a little odd...:)
I too make my living writing, producing, directing, shooting... More so shooting, producing and editing as of late though. A lot of funky schedules and sleeping in shifts for me... I came up through the grip department to the camera dept., etc. Add loads of EFP, I also worked in News... well you get it. I have several projects ready to go... I just need the camera system, it is heads and tails above what I own now that is non film. Anyway...
To add too my skills I am setting up my turntables and I am getting the Rane Serrato Scratch Live system so I can experiment more with sounds and samples. It should be alot of fun. I will soon be spending alot less time here do not worry. :pirate:

Hey Andrew the Serrato is a very serious system it will kill a lot of time I wish I had more time to play with it but to much production work on my plate

Setting up turntables?
Now were in very familiar territory for me. I have setup as many as a dozen tables on a single day (at a CES once) when my company used to be the Kuzma importer.
Seems that we might just have a few more audiophiles lurking among the ranks here than I have previously assumed.

Coming soon. 1cf. F3 38hz. monitors using the Hi-Vi F8 woofer and the Morel MDT-29 tweeter. Second order crossover (with some help from the guys at the Parts Express speaker building forum). About $250.00 for parts not including the boxes. Appx. 89 db. efficency.

Learvis, I consider it an honor that you posted! I remember that you had methodology to your posting...LOL... That is f#$king awesome... since 1985? Damn, I bet you used to spin the hell out of some Afrika Bambaataa back in the day... I am summarily impressed. I would love to watch you cut it up... so are ya into the Doug Pray film "Scratch"? Also Learvis, don't you have an affinity for japenese culture? I think we have alot in common... very cool.
Now, I am a total noob at the tables any advice? (I am so sorry to ask... but on this subject I am all passion and dumbass:) )... any leads or tips are great.

Absolutely khmuse, sound drives the image. I will never forget that. Audio is half the battle not an afterthought.
khmuse, I am poor man's audiophile... but I love really high end audio and tube amps. Now those Kuzma tables are pieces of art... and I can only image the sound. Are you familar with the company Benz-Micro from Switzerland? They make highly engineered cartridges/needles for high end tables like the Kuzma. Well, I have nothing to do with them, but my audiophile friends who can afford the gear love to use it when referencing certain aspects of my physical self... bastards.
I have had many a friend that were audio engineers and I would always love to hear their stories... from the set to the studio, always great fun.
Now the real question is who here has a membership to Tapeop and a secret desire to own an iZ Radar system? :sarcasm:
Love to hear from you guys.

Hello Andrew,
Yes, I am very familiar with Benz-Micro and their products. In addition to Kumza tables and arms we also used to import Dynavector cartridges.
I have to admit to having owned a few absurdly priced cartridges over the years; probably the one that best fits that description was a Clear Audio Insider (over $10k USD). I had it on a Kuzma Stabi Reference table with a Stogi Reference arm and one of my companies phono preamplifier's. It was a gorgeous setup, but cost more than most nice passenger cars so one would be justified in pointing out that it proved the law of diminishing returns.
I am really glad that you have an appreciation of the importance of good sound and not as you so eloquently state "...an afterthought".
It always amazes me how just about anyone can pick up on bad sound, but often the visual side of can fall a bit more into the subjective camp.
"..iZ" as in iZ Technology?
As for table, arm and cartridge setup tips, I could offer many, but I suspect there aren't too many here that are really interested in this obscure subject, so if you have a specific question or a product need, feel free to PM me and I will be more than happy to help out.

I bet words cannot adequately describe that listening experience. But no truer words were said on that last sentence.

Thank you... Sometimes I had to learn that the hard way but that was/is all apart of the growing process. I hope to put together a very effect field audio kit soon after I get my camera. If you don't mind I would like to pm you for your advice if you don't mind. I may be about two or so years away from "stereophile" kit though. But who knows...
It always amazes me how just about anyone can pick up on bad sound, but often the visual side of can fall a bit more into the subjective camp.
Hey Kevin thank you very much. I have followed your posts here and on dvxuser and I always get something good out of them. You always make me think. I was also glad to pick up on your love of audio... Audio means everything to me, for example... for mood... go check out our very own Reduser- Zak Forest and his excellent ethereal music at http://zf.cl.grumblyolds.com/
It has a great Eno/Lanois vibe to it. If each person here were given the same music, I bet each short film would be completely different yet still very compelling. These are great aural lanscapes that one can subject their "id/environment " to and create something beautiful and inspired. Check it out here...
http://myspace.com/zfcl
But, to sum it up--bad audio kills the intended effect everytime... but crap pictures can be saved by great music or motivated sweeting.
"..iZ" as in iZ Technology?
Yes, I liken it to as the RED of the Audio recording world... ever hear," I would not be caught dead using *protools*... I am going to stay with the warmth of tubes and tape... anyone seen my razorblades?

Hi Learvis, no prob on the props... I may be a noob on the tables but I have an extensive collection of music and varied genres from my times and travels. From "Kind of Blue" (Columbia) to the "The Gyoto Monks" (Windam Hill) it really is all in there. But Planet Rock and Kraftwerk... I like it! Glad you like the Doug Pray flick, I have to agree with you but I was just thankful that it was not a piece of derivetive crap-- which it easily could have been. :innocent: Also, who doesn't love a s16mm doc that is shot well and compelling... Dude, I remember more than one post about your very cool wife. I think that is great. I studied japanese language, culture and business practices back in '89 though my current language skills are lacking... Though I can still tell a woman she is very beautiful in japanese. Does not do me any good here in the Rock.:whistling:
Dude, believe it or not, I really study the people here more than I do the camera really. I feel that relationships are the most important thing, we all share very similar interests and passions so I am hoping to visit alot of people here... bring my RED and shoot little nat sound pieces on them and fold it into a larger project that I am working on right now. The is a great focal point for us is it not? When comes to troll like posters I try my best yet sometimes fail to follow the Bruce Lee quote " Be like water..." sometimes I get it all wrong.
Dude you are welcome to come by and visit... it would be great to meet you and your wife. You could check out the RED and laugh at my "toddler like ability" on the Vestax (sorry-- I was a dumbass and bought these over the 1200s-- but these are pretty cool). I will pm you later on the turntablist quest for knowledge.
Much respect to you and Kevin--- now I gotta go work.

Yeah Chuck, Lanois is great, It is one of my biggest goals to meet and work with this guy... Wenders film is also one my favs... Lanois can do anything and his process is something to watch. Hey check out this scene in Sling Blade where Karl is contemplating murder... Lanois music delves into his inner struggle and communicates that to the viewers flawlessly. It was funny I saw this film in Chicago (when I was at Columbia College)... the people's reacts were funnier than the jokes in the film!
