I will need the lightest possible RED ONE configuration. Something like Acapulco set up (cameraman on rollers holding RED with one hand and hanging by the car).
Is this all I need? Take the look on my drawing.

I take it that is a fixed focus and stop shot.

You'll need two top mounts for the handle and the extender (one comes with the handle in the base production kit).

Not quite sure where the quick plate would go.

One possiblity is that it can bolt to the top handle (two screw points available). The other is that you mount it to a universal mount -- in which case you may need two 12" rods to thread through the two top mounts.

In terms of the arm -- you can attach to screw points on the top handle (if you have mounted the quick plate elsewhere), or you can unscrew the cap at the front of the top handle and attach the arm there.

I have seen multiple users attach the battery to their body with an extended cable (ala a "battery belt") which reduces weight and footprint from the camera. Since the operations screen sits at the rear of the body, I will probably be taking this approach as much as possible, since I don't fancy the idea of the battery sitting on top of the camera or way out the back to be out of the way.

Battery Plate Belt Clip $290

Is this the only item that you need for this approach?

On a related note, anyone actually weigh their setups with different configurations and not just guess?

I know very marginal of a concern what with so much to do/shoot with a Red but if anyone has the time...

Milan,

Are you shooting exteriors? A Matte box may be nessessary.

A smaller prime lens could probably also reduce some weight, although the 18-50 looks pretty compact.

An excellent question!

I think this set-up is very close to ideal.

For docos it would assume 2K scaled or windowed filming, ideally onto 16GB cards, all of which should be possible by Q1 next year..

You also need some kind of shoulder support in there, both to save your shoulder bones and because RED may be a bit short to sit happily on the shoulder without a shoulder mount.

You may need a matt box with the RED 18-50, which will up the weight a bit.. rails etc.. Although it does have a little hood of it's own..

If you go with SLR lenses you can use their lens hoods and also the much lighterweight Birger remote follow focus system.. assuming it works ok..

The whole RED team are very busy and all, so respect, but sometime it would be great to get complete dimensions and weights of every individual item in the Store

Milan, what lens will you be using ? As to a Matte box, well of course it helps avoid flare. For NDs, while at IBC, Steven Williams, being a fine observer, pointed out to me the Red 18-35mm has the capactiy of accepting screw on filters, not sure about the diameter, 72mm I think, can someone confirm please ?

Anyhow, that's a cheap option for ND filters and also a sturdy one for action shooting like out of a car window or on rollerblades.

Cheers,
Damien

Thanks friends,
I will use Red 18-50 zoom in extremely close space (airplane cockpit and tight pit in the land) mostly with fixed focus and very little maneuver space as well as with not so much of natural light. It is documentary as you probably guessed already.
So it seams that I will need some top plate and bars because top handle can not attach directly to the camera.
Am I right here?

You can attach the top handle directly to the camera. You might want the top rods anyway for top mounting the battery behind the handle though.
