I have just installed a Red Rocket into a brand new 8-Core Mac Pro. It is in Slot 2 the 16x Slot. I have removed my Matrox MXO2 Mini Card.

I utilized the newest drivers and successfully updated the firmware to 1.1.8.6
In both RedCine-X Build 242 and Avid Media Composer 5.0.3.4 as soon as the rocket is accessed it causes a full system crash. Crashes to the Mac Grey Screen of Death. This happens when we try to Transcode in AVID or REDCINEX. In addition it happens even when trying to play out a clip in REDCINEX.

I am currently downloading Build 340. To try that.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Gray screen of death is probably a hardware fault.

You don't need a 16x slot for the Rocket.

I'd suggest general debugging. I'd start by removing and reinstalling the Rocket card. (I'd drop the card in a 4x slot while you are at it.)

Since you have the MXO card, should use that in various slots to make sure it is not the slot.

Also... get on the phone with RED support.

The slot was working fine with the MX02 in it before I installed the Rocket. I had originally installed the Rocket in a 4x slot and it failed to work there as well. I have also tried uninstalling the RAID card and connecting my external drives via firewire 800 all to no avail. Although I have no idea what the log files are saying, they all end (ie the software crashes) at the same time.

Also do you have RED support's telephone number?

http://www.red.com/contact_us

Just call that phone number and navigate the phone tree.

At this point I'd just send an email using the form.

Didn't you get a Bomb Squad rep when you bought your Rocket?
