Hi,

I here there is support for 2 rockets in a mac pro. I have 2 rockets but have not done any testing yet. Anyone know if I will be transcoding at 2X speed with 2 rockets? If so.... YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Thanks

Don't ask - Inform!

I seem to recall it being for 3D but I would love to be corrected. If you don't see any difference. Try opening RC-X v340 and v336 at the same time and see if each instance of RC-X will recognise an available Rocket. At least that way you could be using one for export and the other for playback or extra export. You'll want two disks to read from and two to write too naturally.

Hi,

I’ve got two rockets in my mac pro at the moment on a 3D feature and its running along nicely. Transcodes seem to fly through but I’m not 100% sure its harnessing all the full power of both cards.

The other issue is that I’ve run out of X8 PCI slots so the second rocket’s had to go in a X4 which must be slowing things down a little. It can’t play 3D side by side for more than 30 secs without needed to render a little. Still amazing performance considering what its doing.

Yes there is support for 2 RR in a Mac Pro, and in fact it is what I have been looking in to for a while now, and last conversation with Jarred confirmed the strong Bust in performance and making the Twin RR a Must have on a Mac Pro, however they must be placed exactly in the proper slots, and other Cards must also be placed in their right spots as well, or they will not perform.

As to what goes were this has varied form installer to installer, but I would not trust just any one with my Tower, and for this still researching, since I'm bringing the towers to Italy for the new Studios, I need to make sure is done right.

Does anyone know if it's possible to share rockets between 2 MacPros that are on a SAN, in the same way you can make a cluster in Compressor? We have 2 MacPros, each with a rocket, on fibre on an XSAN...

Will 2 Red Rockets in the same MacPro make the transcoding faster?

A definitive Yes.

2 clips (1000 frames and 3400 frames): 4096x2304 RC36@ 23.976 to ProRes 422 (Regular) with 1/2 Good Debayer.

One Card - 2:39
Two Cards - 1:23

Both are in 16x slots, reading at 8x.

Matt,

What software are you using to take advantage of both cards? RedcineX?

Is the rocket capable of doing half-debayer now?

shouldn't be, no matter what you set your debayer settings to, if rocket accleration is on in RCX, it will always do a full debayer.

That's what I thought...

I was wondering about the 1/2 good debayer. Also 4400 frames is about 3 min and I have never gotten RCX with Rocket to transcode to ProresSQ faster than realtime.

3 minutes of footage transcoded in 2:39 is really good.

Are you using Premiere? I have not used Premiere with Rocket.

Two Rockets at the same time. HIGHLY recommend.

LOL!

Gee. That just makes life soooo hard...

I'd rather do two rockets and feel like a million dollars!

What about 2 rockets in a PC?? been pondering a special built 2 rocket pc just for red footage. No problem with slots there.

Then the 2 chicks.

That was RedCineX build 348 I did this in.

Was not aware that RCX defaulted to full debayer, I thought 1/2 good was a bit too impressive.

I still have one more card... let's max this thing out.

Let's get those numbers.

Probably would get the highest speeds to DPXs or TIFFs, if you have a RAID to take it... At some point this will choke on the transcoding to "fill in codec here" on the CPU side...

Any News?

I am contemplating installing two of these on a macpro, but i happen to have one of the slots taken by a myricom 10GigE Card which my installer refuses to move to another slot due to bandwidth concerns (its a transcoding station, Kompressor, for our Baselight).

SO any news on this would be great.

Thanks

Yes, has been confirmed that it is faster with 2 cards.

Yep, it worked!

We are using the dual rocket setup for our baselight red support.

What about 2 rockets in a PC??

SCRATCH supports multiple rockets.
