I've got an upcoming shoot where the B-camera will be a Canon 7D with a PL mount. I'm assuming Red Pro Primes will work fine, but has anyone run into issues under these circumstances? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

In that case you would need FGV Schmidle GmbH München PL converted 7D>>> (http://www.fdtimes.com/news/?p=1547)

the only problem we ran into was a snug fit, it works and looks great just takes a little more patience and more muscle applied cautiously to change lenses

Just tried my RED Pro Primes on my friends newly converted PL Mount 7D. Worked fine!

All work fine on the Hotrod 7DPL, even the 18mm.
EDIT: Sorry, I misspoke. I just doublechecked and the 18mm RPP does NOT fit on the HotRod 7DPL. Neither does the Angenieux DP 30-80. Those are the only two lenses HotRod has tested that will not fit. They protrude too far into the camera cavity.

So I take it the PL conversion has to be done in shop or can this be done personally?

It is a major retrofit and once done you cannot go back. No, you cannot do it yourself. You can either buy an already converted camera from us or send in your camera to be converted.

From my measurements the 18mm should work with unmodified 7D, albeit with modifications(to the lens).
I just haven't found a soul brave enough to let me do it(or one with both courage and money:smiley:)

Yo Jacek, what about shaving the rear end of the RPZ 18-85? You think that could fit in an unmodified camera?
That'd be a pretty sweet focal range, but I'd only consider it if I could potentially rent it to all the HDSLR users coming up (without them having to remove their mirrors.) Cheaper than a set of CP.2s.

I'm sure it's possible, just need the lens.

HA! I like to think of myself as brave... but I just realized that I'm not $10,000 brave.
Are there any cheap older S35 zooms... I mean, $1000 cheap? : )

That's the cost of my replacement PL mount for the primes($180)- it should work on the zoom- just need to check

So you took a still camera lens that has been modified to PL mount and have "re-modified" it back in order to work on a still camera?
interesting.

what the hell are you going on about Dave? RPP's are not rehoused still lenses..

I did, but then changed my mind, all my lenses are now at Duclos getting the Focus Markings added on, as we are collaborating in order to come up with the perfect amount of Added Focus Markings to them and let me say it looks really good for the RPP's.
UPDTES will be posted here: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50235

The adaptation is not to make the PL mount a Still mount but rather make the PL mount adapted so that can be fitted in to the PL mount for the Still camera, and will continue to work perfectly on the Red camera and or any Arri PL mount camera.

Red 18-50 is a rehoused still lens, I think we would all agree on that. I don't disagree that it's a good achievement. But I don't see the purpose of putting an Red 18-50 on a 7D, much better and faster, cheaper EF / Nikon mount zooms are available. I guess if you already owned a 18-50 and a 7D and it was a cheap conversion it could be a good option.

No took the red 15-80 trim down the mount or machine the mount hight down. and put a pl to canon adapter. very simple to understand.

I'll take one of those red 15-80's!
Stuart, can't you just unscrew the black threaded piece in the back of the 18-50 to make it work?

No you have to remove the cone and machine the Top of the pl mount. The distance from the seating surface to the top of the mount is too long.

Would you happen to have any before/after shots? Also, do you make the PL-to-EF adapter or is it one you get from somewhere else?
OH, and is the same mount modification not possible with the 17-50, 18-85 or 50-150 Red zooms?

Im sure there would be no problem with the other red lenses. and we do make the pl to canon adapter. you will be able to use these lenses on canon 7d.
