yes im in love with them!
very cinematic..imo
I also used a soft fx filter in the MB to smooth everything out even MORE.
I just cant get into the ultra sharp thing.

I just cant get into the ultra sharp thing.
I can dig the soft look for certain situations, and the ultra sharp look for others. Kinda depends on what you're doing I guess. But as far as filmmaking goes, I dig the soft vintage look.
I'd love to play with a set of Kowa's sometime. Are they pretty similar to Baltars?

i heard they are basically the EXACT same as the baltars.. except have a little bit more of an warm tint to the coating.
but yes.. for commercial work i stick with my zeiss set..
for some movies.. id use zeiss as well.. it really depends on the feel of the movie.. but for something like this test scene, it worked having the softer look

Totally. I'm actually prepping a horror shoot right now for next year, I think I'm going to look into renting some Kowas or Baltars after seeing this test.

Haha, well you can be jealous once we have funding and we're actually shooting. For now, it's just a dream project.
Can you send me any good resources to read up on these puppies?

I would If I could...
When i search KOWA CINE on google.. im really the only thing that pops up hahah
there really arent many of these out there still.. and if they are, people arent putting much about them up, so I am officially calling myself the KOWA guy.
although shane hurlbut gave a shout out to kowas in a 5d/7d article
(he has the same mind set as me about soft lens on digital sensors)
but anyways.. my full set is for rent as well, so keep my lenses in mind:)

my Kowa cuts with my Super Baltars - although I've found the Baltars to be more warm and a tad softer.

interesting.. i heard it was the other way around as far as color temp goes..
heard kowas were def sharper.. but thought they were warmer also..
I havent played with baltars, so i cant really comment.. its only what i have been told, but thanks for letting us know:)

it could also be my set! But my Kowa 20 is definitely sharper, regardless they're beautiful!
