It's up on the Apple store now.

Not shipping yet though. Ugh!

EDIT: Wish it was the same price as the PC version. $760 instead of $1200. Sigh... That's a pretty huge price difference.

256 Cuda cores vs. 240 on a GTX 285. 2GB vs. 1GB... I have to wonder about the real world performance difference in Resolve.

Here's the quote I found by a BlackMagic guy online regarding a Flashed GTX 260 vs. 285
"A complex 10 node correction that the 285 breezes through, slows the 260 down to about 21 FPS. "

Makes me think the 285 is probably plenty of juice for the moment. Maybe put the extra cash towards a Red Rocket if you don't have one and want a boost.

Aaaahhhhh... Apple Tax. Love the fact that the cheaper PC one gets an extra displayport socket too :)

I think you can only run 2 displays anyway so I guess they put it there more to laugh at the Apple users... whose ranks I have now fully joined thanks to Blackmagic / DaVinci not having a Windows versions.

The "Apple Tax" sure beats the "Buy Scratch / Speedgrade Tax" or the "Try To Color Correct With After Effects Or My NLE Workflow, Quality, Time and Carpal Tunnel Wrist Death Tax". Thanks a lot :P

So, how long, before PC version gets re-flashed for mac use, just like 285?

Heya,

Probably won't be as easy to get a flashed version because unless someone sends one over to Netkas (http://netkas.org/), no one is going to have a hack at it because of cost.

It may also be that using one would require an injector which requires the use of a second card slot for a standard Mac supported nVidia GT120. Blah. Hate to lose a slot.

The GTX285 also required an injector and the use of a second slot/GT120. There is a method to de-solder the old ROM and put on a larger 256k that will hold the entire EFI ROM but by the time you pull out the soldering iron, it may be best to spring for the card and warranty.

Aghh..

Got my reflashed PC version of GTX 285 on Ebay from macvidcards in Hollywood and it performs flawlessly with Resolve and Premiere. Yes, it's not a casual thing to do and I have no desire to do it myself, but if the difference is $500 for the same card, it's just a matter of time, before it's done. It's a business opportunity for someone like macvidcards, plain and simple...

I talked with Nvidia earlier today. Someone at the store definitely blew that one--multiple embargoes were violated when that link was released.

Click on the link again and you'll notice its been pulled.

We're not under the embargo, so we'll probably list it up for pre-order later. Its coming pretty soon.

Is it true that Resolve for MAC will not support multiple GPU's?

Since its a single slot Graphics Card, you could stack them and make a super fast resolve system.

Yes, that's true.

Is it true that Resolve for MAC will not support multiple GPU's?.

Presently, it will not. But I know its a consideration.

I've been told there are some considerable technical challenges to making it work, but can't say anything else beyond that.

Is this the go to graphics card for utilizing the MPE in CS5 running on OSX ?

Do you know if the OSX drivers are taking advantage of the card ... I've always heard that NVidia cards didn't run well on Macs ?

Also, how will this card work with Final Cut Studio ?

Quadro FX 4800 has 192 CUDA cores, 1.5 GB of memory, and memory bandwidth of 76.8 GB/sec.

Quadro 4000 has 256 CUDA cores, 2.0 GB of memory, and memory bandwidth is 89.6 GB/sec.

Between the two, I'd opt for the 4000. Also--4000 works in a single slot instead of requiring dual width.

No idea regarding the Quadro 4000, but the GTX 285 works pretty well in a Mac, and even under Color it's only 4% slower than an ATI 4870.

I think I'd still go with the GTX285 for MPE. MPE is still predominantly CPU based and only uses the GPU for layering, transformations, and GPU-accelerated FX. For DaVinci, there should be a noticeable boost with the Quadro 4000, but you have to wonder if it's really worth the price. It may be to some. I wish they would just release the GTX 580 and be done with it. FWIW the GTX285 is already faster/better than the Quadro 4800 in both MPE and DaVinci Resolve.

Resolve supports the Nvidia Quadro 4000 - in the Linux systems it replaces the FX3800 used for UI and in Mac it can be used for the UI and a second card for the image processing GPU. Performance benchmarks are under evaluation and we will update our Mac configuration guide in due course. GT120, FX4800 for Mac and GTX285 for Mac remain valid for Resolve on Mac as per the current config guide.

Resolve supports the Nvidia Quadro 4000 -

Good news. Now I can complete my system and even have room for the Blackmagic 3D+ HDMI slot-filler.

How? You'll still need two cards.

How? You'll still need two cards.

Slot #1 in my Mac Pro Is double width but the Quadro 4000 is single width. That leaves room for any slot-filler you decide. The Quadro 4000 has one for the 3D output, Red Rocket has one for HD-SDI if you don't have a BOB, and the Decklink has one for HDMI. I choose the HDMI 1.4a from the Decklink 3D+.

Edit: this is the Config I'm going for

Slot # 1: Quadro 4000
: Decklink HDMI slot-filler
Slot # 2: Red Rocket
Slot # 3: nVidia GT 120
Slot # 4: Decklink 3D+

Will Resolve use two FX4000 ? The second card is not for UI only ? is this not overkill ?

Overkill. But hopefully one day we will get multi GPU support for Resolve on Mac.

Will the 4000 work with Resolve in OSX or only Linux?

Peter Chamberlain

There is a 4000 for PC version for the Linux systems. They are not interchangeable.
Use the 4000 for the UI in the Linux systems with a 5000 or 6000 for the image processing.

I've been buying flashed video cards from that guy for years... Going back to my G5 days.. He's a really good guy and he knows what he's doing!!
