conversion to 2k

I´m runing a postproduction and I´m reading a lot about the workflow with FCP. But sorry for me it´s still a miracle! At the moment for me it´s seems to be the best way to transcode the 4k files to 2k apple proRes quicktime files. How long does the conversion take? This is what I found in an other forum:

"With my preliminary testing on an iMac 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo, NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT, and 2GB f RAM you can expect the following frame rates with the 'good' quality codec installed:

.5k Real Time 24fps
1k < half speed 10fps
2k About no speed 2fps"

Is it rigth that it take 12 hours to convert 1 hour 4k Files to 2K?

I'm not surprised by these figueres, as I have understood that as of now Red have wanted the transcoding times being held under wraps.

The reasoning has been that things will change with RedCine, as this app will use the GPU, which the current app does not use.

That said, it has been stated numerous times that "bigger is better"
