I really would like to learn Resolve (registered at fxphd), but for the moment I am tight on the budget and I have an early 2008 Mac (which is rarely used, because I work primarily in PC). I will buy the cards (gtx 285 and gt120) and Resolve (all 1700$).
As about the raid, can I use an internal raid with Resolve (as a temporal solution). My projects are mostly 720p.
thanks

I think you can probably use an internal RAID readily... provided you are working with compressed materials. You can work in up to 2K on the OS X version ... I think.
(You can still work with RED, just at 2K 16:9 and lower resolutions.)
I think the internal RAIDs break down with uncompressed materials. I've never had an issue with them for RED or ProRes4444 material though.
Just remember, you need to set playback to 8bit on the older Mac Pros.

If you are using it with Red footage it will play back from a single hard disk just fine. For 2k DPX sequences it will work with a 4 disk internal soft raid according to the configuration guide. So yes, go ahead and buy it to learn.
External monitor output and a control panel are things that you are really going to want though when working with Resolve. It will work without, but is not really designed for it.

We just put 5 internal drives in a RAID 0 in our MacPro and it works great for 2K DPX and compressed formats.
