I want to purchase a red cam. I am based in Los Angeles and am looking to either purchase a new red cam or used one and also I want to buy additional equipment (like lens, monitors, whatever the red cam needs to function).

1. I want to know where either I can get one or should I just get one from Red?

2. Also- as regards to specific costs, how much will it run?

3. What additional equipment do i need to purchase? how much will it run?

Any additional advice? Is it better to buy used? I know I may save money, but id be concerned if something was messed up.

What should I do? hellpp

This is a real name only forum therealslumdog, please check out the "real names" thread under Recon.

As far as getting a Red, here's some quick tips:

In general a full running rig with support gear, lenses, media and monitoring will cost you around $30-40K

If you buy secondhand then you can send the camera over to Red if I'm not mistaken for inspection/servicing. They'll give you a warranty when they're through.

Additional equipment wise a Red Rocket card will help transocde times and playback.

Additional advice? I don't mean to sound rude in the slightest but a quick search at the red.com store would have given you the prices. The most important thing you can purchase is an education in filming principles either by attending courses/reducation or renting equipment and doing spec shoots and learning from your mistakes.

Remember, no matter how good a camera you have it won't make you a better film maker. Shit in>Shit out.

Visit a Red retail store. The one in Hollywood is great.
