If you have a Flickr account, you can directly hotlink the medium-size pic (500 pixels.. no need to rehost), then link that image to its Flickr page, as below...

My DSLR still pics on the Mammoth HD web site will give you a quick view of my still photography work. The Mammoth HD RED 4K Gallery (stock footage) will be open for licensing of RED 4k footage very soon. The gallery has actually been online since April in anticipation of the delivery of RED One camera and the resultant influx of RED stock footage.
The placeholder pics on the three pages of the gallery are all DSLR pics, shot in RAW. They were shot in 10 megapixel RAW, but then copies were optimized down to 72dpi JPEGs for web use. My DSLR pics on these pages are as follows:
RED 4k Library – Coming Soon Page 1
I shot all 3 pics on the top row and all 3 pics on bottom row
Link: http://www.mammothhd.com/MHD_RED1.html
RED 4k Library – Coming Soon, Page 2
I shot all pics on the first two rows of small pics (ocean, /sailboats/power plant), and the pelican shot on the bottom row.
Link: http://www.mammothhd.com/MHD_RED4.html
RED 4k Gallery – Formats Page
I shot all the pics on this page
Link: http://www.mammothhd.com/MHD_RED2.html
RED 4k Library Talentbase Page
I shot all the pics on this page
Link: http://www.mammothhd.com/MHD_RED3.html
I shoot a much wider subject range than is represented on these pages, but those pics will give you a taste of some of my favorite subjects to shoot.

Ahhh....you picked one of the few pics on all those pages that I didn't shoot. I shot the pics I described in the per-page breakdown of my first post above.
I'd guess that is a Grand Canyon shot - definitely somewhere in the desert southwest of the USA. If not GC, then maybe the Lake Powell area of southern Utah.

Awesome shot, my friend! You guys should let me do some RED 4K stock shots for you at some point. The examples on your site are amazing... right up my alley.
Is that really Powell? What bridge would that be, then?

These were my very first RAW images, with the venerable D100 and a 28-200 zoom, handheld with available light and some fill with the camera's own pop up flash. Graded one step through a LUT I of mine call "Ektar" to mimic the saturation of 25 ASA negative, so yes, they are purposely overblown...

Some insane lighting going on in OC today. I snapped this from my balcony at around 11AM. All the smoke is coming up from SD, I think. Sort of a smoke-induced "permanent magic hour" all day today.

I'm like 20 miles from the OC fires, and probably at least 30 - 50 miles from the ones in northern San Diego! I think most of that smoke in the sky has come all the way up from San Diego, which is quite far from here.
I've lived here all my life and have never seen anything remotely like this.

Interesting post Tom and some nice pics.
You ought to do *Official Red clip competitions. The idea being someone such as yourself Tom, comes up with a concept for people to go out and shoot a 10 or 15 second shot. I remember the photograph comps over at DVXuser, and this thread reminded me of them. Would make for interesting little competitions that could be done every so often.
Winner gets a red sticker or something :)

Most of these were shot with a Canon 5d with L glass. A couple were shot with a canon Rebel XT. All shots were taken within an hour from Santa Cruz CA. Ah, screw... might as well. I'm primarily a photojournalist and sports shooter for my still photography at this point, but I won't bore you with too many of the sports shots right now.
Sorry about the watermarks folks, but I don't want these photos used without permission by anybody who happens to run across this thread in an image search. All images other than the Berlin images below are © 2008 Harrison Diamond / The Independent Florida Alligator.
I'll start with the soundslides from a study abroad photojournalism course I participated in. My university, the University of Florida, has an annual trip of about a dozen journalism/photography students to Berlin, Germany where we learn about the local history and culture and must pick a photo subject, shoot them for a few days, record audio, then put together the slideshow before leaving.
Here is my project slideshow. (http://www.jou.ufl.edu/people/faculty/jfreeman/Berlin2008/SS-Final-DIAMOND/index.html)

Don't take it personally.. I'm just obsessed with sunset landscape shots....! :)
Hi,
If you are going to shoot for time lapse, stop motion, or motion control, I would recomend setting your camera to shoot 3 bracket exposures and fit the camera with an automated filter wheel with strong RED, GREEN, and BLUE separation filters in front of the lens, plus XB29 or IR/UV. That would then give you 9 exposures per frame. Won't work for high wind and trees or some water shots, but it can for other subjects.
27 exposures gives better results, much less noise and better color. More than 27 probably would not help much.
My program DANCINES.EXE (tm) runs a film scanner, but it could also be used for time lapse outdoors on an old laptop. The parallel printer port can control solid state relays that should be able turn the filter wheel motor and shutter cable on and off. You can use a DC motor and some micro switches to control the filter wheel probably, its just like a light house only the other way around, rather than shooting with RED, GREEN, and BLUE lights, you select the stop micro switch for the filter needed. You could write you own program to do this as well.
For stop motion and motion control, you can get HDR and better color than you can with the camera's single exposure. It would be better to use a good high resolution industral monochrome camera since it would not have a mechanical shutter like a DSLR has, since you make 9 exposures per frame the DSLR needs service sooner.

Hi,
I bought the Canon 5D a couple months ago, and am starting to do some time lapse too. I'm just wondering, how do you know when your shutter is toast and you need to send it in for a new one? Does the camera stop working? Is there any message telling you the problem?

Thanks Tom!
What does shooting stereo do for timelapse?
You would have to ask The Foundry for that. If You are going to IBC You can actually see it in 3D with few other shots from this weekend...
Do you own those lenses, etc??
ARRI Ultra Primes? I wish... :) Just rented for the weekend (three pairs of 16, 28 & 40). Actually those were little too fast for me, You can see them being stopped down to 11 for the timelapse...
However this is how they behaved in a very dark environment (4 AM mountain tunnel):

From the summit of Sierra Negra (4,640 m / 15,220 ft) at 6:30AM. The mountain is the Pico de Orizaba (third tallest in North America). This still is from a timelapse sequence that was ruined by codec errors. At least we have few stills...

Stefan, brilliant shot, I have driven through this pass couple of times in both direction - one of the best (if not the best) driving roads in the world...! It is also featured in the season 10 of Top Gear...
I love landscapes - I have posted few earlier in this thread in this post http://www.reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=236975&postcount=50
I have about 500 like that from New Zealand (out of 2000+ taken). I had to turn down a private exhibition at the Kodak Photo Salon in Ginza (Tokyo) as the date they have invited me for coincided with the birth of my son in Mexico. Till today only very few had the chance to see them and I am glad to share them here... It was a first field-test of the KODAK E200 film that was designed to compete with the Fuji (favorite for landscapes) and I fell in love with that stock... :bye2:

Peter, how does a lowly DP or shooter get hooked up with the Foundry?
Peter Majtan
09-12-2008, 01:34 PM
Simon (the owner) was huge help on my Kurosawa project and The Foundry officially participated on it. We used the core engine of Furnace and many of the Furnace plugins in a modified workflow designed specifically for film restoration. This particular cooperation resulted in major design changes and improvements in Furnace itself. We have been close friends with Simon ever since... :)

10+ years ago at the Andes Mountains. Not a great picture, but has some history.
24 hours after I took this picture............. I was rescued by a Chilean Air Force helicopter.

Christian Munoz D

Same day, same place, different animal.
By a male 1.5 times larger than the female in the picture.
I think there are a few slides of him around here.

I'd be very interested to hear that story.
I wrote a screenplay back in 1998 called "Between Lions and Men" that involves a scene where a man engages in mortal, hand-to-hand combat with a male lion on the Serengeti.

uff!! I will need several pages to tell the whole thing.
I am leaving to a seven days shoot, so I will post part of the history next week....and a few pictures also.
Will be interesting to read your screenplay some day.

Tom, this pic is a winner for me. Really nice...
I see you used the 10-22, hmmm.
Which focal length and f/stop?
Tom Lowe
10-03-2008, 07:01 PM
That was ISO 200 f/5, with a fully cranked circa pola filter. This was part of a timelapse sequence, so I did not want to stop down too far, because sometimes that can cause "flicker" due to the inconsistencies of the iris diaphragm.
For a still I would have stopped down to f/8 or f/9 probably.
But the 10-22 always comes through like a champ! The motto is: "In the 10-22 We Trust." :)
Tico Llaurador
10-03-2008, 07:52 PM
Tom, have you ever used the 17-40mm? Any thoughts?
Tom Lowe
10-03-2008, 08:34 PM
No, I haven't. Is that an f/4 lens? I think it would be too slow.
Funny thing.. looking on amazon, the 17-40 L is actually cheaper than the 10-22.
Tico Llaurador
10-03-2008, 08:47 PM
I'm thinking of getting one. I don't mind the f/4, as I usually like shooting a bit stopped down anyway, unless I really, really need the extra light. I'm leaning towards the 70-200mm f/4 as well. Thanks for sharing.
Tom Lowe
10-03-2008, 08:59 PM
Tico, in terms of a wide lens, why not look at the 16-35L? That's the EF lens I am most interested in. It's expensive, though, at around $1,500 USD.

Not on the road just yet. I have just started driving my car for short distances only. It will be about 5-6 months before I can drive longer, go filming or diving. These were pics from my recent trips. I am about same height as you, but lowering the seat and sliding it right back works well...as long as you don't have spinal injury!
Overall, I find it quite good expedition setup. Little beemer has heaps of grunt and pulls 1.3 ton (!) trailer easily. I have done trips over 12,000 km from Sydney to Townsville to Kangaroo Island and back. It handles off road quite well too (for a sports car).

No manual aperture, You just set the magnification requirement (and shutter / iris) and off you go. I normally find the best way to steady myself, all shots tend to be hand held as bugs etc bug out, :) , by the time a tripod and slider has been set up, is to travel through the tiny focal distance shooting continuously as I go. I tend to nail the shot on the second attempt. I have lost a few decent images in this technique but results are more pleasing this way.
The lens preferred lighting is the MT24EX dual macro light. I actually prefer to hand hold a Speedlite 580EX II on an extended hotshoe cable with a diffuser cap. That way I can create and work with shadows if needed.
Cheers,
Mark.

Thanks for the compliment.
I love to photograph Joshua Tree as it's both beautiful and somewhat challenging as a lot of the "good stuff" is off the paths and you can't easily get in close on a lot of occasions. Haven't been in a while, so I think I need to have another trip.
The difference in the rock coloration in magic hour at JTree can be astonishing. I took some pics of some of the formations there, literally 10 or 15 mins apart and the difference is stunning (of course most people were eating their dinner the entire time and missed the whole event ...)

Nick, I also like the last one the most. Nature photography is really something on itself.

Nice shots. Are those real exteriors, the girl sitting on the stone and the guys with the sunset? It feels sort of comped, but still a great job. What did you use to light them with because I love the shadows and the transitions between light and shadow.

Jep we also have some real soldiers with chocolatte guns and cheese planes.
Our tanks are of pure gold and all officers wear rolex army watches. :)

Hi Jason
All the pics are shot on location. I use bron lights (made in switzerland).
Diffrent reflectors and softboxes. I used the big 220 para umbrella on the F-18 shot. This gives you a beautifull light. You can go from ultra hard to very soft light all with just the para.

If everyone isn't too sick of them already, a couple more from Joshua tree (both of split rock -- sadly minus the "split" in the 1st)
