Any information on if (well...) and when "American Cinematographer" is gonna do an article on red? Would be great to read something there...

American Cinematographer won't ignore Red. They can't. My guess is they might be giving it a small bit of time to sort of "get out there" and used a bit.
Also, and more importantly, they're more likely to report on it in the context of an actual shoot. Can anyone say "Soderberg?"

They had RED featured in the "new products & services" section back in the April issue I believe.

Yup I did one for them for the April '07 issue. The next Red article on AC is likely to focus on a specific feature or TV series shooting with Red.

They rarely run feature articles on a piece of equipment, just movies or cinematographers, etc. So you'll have to wait for some TV show, commercial, or feature shot on the RED to be covered.

I was interviewed a few days ago by a guy from ICG about the Red and my experiences shooting with it. It's probably going to be in Novembers mag...
ICG is usually a good read even if you are not in IA600.

NoahK, right, I remember... Would be interesting to have another review now that the camera actually is in use.
And David, yes, I'm already looking forward to that. I wonder what feature it will be...
Matt: looking forward reading that, too...

At this point, Jim and them probably still have the best idea about whether AC has any articles in the works. Once the camera gets out onto more major films, I'm sure AC will be all over it.
Any news or rumors on any major new features considering using RED?

Did you happen to read Mike's interview with Ted and Jim on HDForIndies?
http://www.hdforindies.com/2007/10/interview-with-ted-jim-from-red-day.html
From my reading, Ted all-but-confirmed 24 and Rodriguez as being part of the "Beta Gang". Not sure if that meant they were shaking it down (as we heard on 24 but never on Rodriguez) or if they were shooting (as we also heard rumors of but were never followed up)
Anyone knows what Rodriguez is shooting now? IMDB looks confused and is not currently in production on anything.
Also, AFAIK the Crank guys haven't started their new feature yet, but are in casting it seems. Ted also confirmed them as the Beta gang, but that shouldn't be news to anyone.
Anyone knows what Cameron is shooting Avatar on?

Answering my own Question about Cameron it seems he made his own 3D camera called "Fusion"

A good jurnalist could do a feature with peter jacksons - crossing the line or steven soderberghs - guerillia or argentine.

There probably will be an article on one of those Soderberg movies, either as a feature article or a shorter one in the "In Production" section (AC has run articles by me on my films "Twin Falls Idaho" and "Northfork" in that section.) But they try to time such articles with the release of the movie.

I just read an article in this month's HDVP about the PhantomHD. It would be awesome to see a similar article about the RED camera since every article I've been able to find so far is just a teaser for the camera with a picture and a few statements from the writers basically amounting to "It's not ready yet...". Since I haven't a RED of my own to look at yet and I haven't seen any of the guys in my area who now have them shooting with it, I'm forced to get my fix through the magazines and from what the users talk about on here. I believe that once the RED accessories are ready, the camera will certainly be able to give the big boys a good thrashing, but only time will tell if I'm right.

I heard from a reliable source that 24 liked the camera but couldn't get a handle on the workflow.

Fusion camera system was created by Sony. Its basically two linked F950's. They had a demo at this years NAB.

well, I can understand that. Its much easier to hand over all the footage (negatives) at the end of the day, and take the day of. Than connect to a computer and transfer all the RAW data. phu... would at least take you a couple of minutes.
Buts seriously. Did your source elaborate it any further? What work flow are they talking about exactly?

Wrong... Someone who works on the postproduction team stated here at reduser that two things were going against the RED...
a. Not being able to get enough cameras in time for production and...
b. Major investments (decks, offline/online rooms) had been made to the current post path and that they might be able to justify the change over before the next installment of 24-- that means after the one that is in Principle Photograhy now. Charters was very excited and wants to use the camera from what this poster had said.
Who knows what will happen... I am sure there will a RED one kicking about for comparative analysis only time will tell.
You will have to look up that post yourself... but it was stuck in my mind.
Hope this helps.

My understanding is that Mr. Cameron and his team developed this 3D system collaboratively with Sony several years ago.
