An updated version of the DaVinci Resolve for Mac Configuration Guide has been posted on our website. You can find the PDF on the DaVinci Support page.
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/davinci/support/

This edition of the guide corresponds with the release of on the Resolve 7.0.3 for Mac which supports the following new graphics cards:
• ATI Radeon HD 5770 for the GUI monitor
• NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for the GPU
These two new cards each use 1 power connection which consumes the two auxiliary PCIe power connections provided by the Mac Pro. Other models of the ATI Radeon HD series of cards require 2 power connections and therefore cannot be used with the NVIDIA Quadro 4000.

The ATI Radeon HD 5770 is a standard graphics card with the mid 2010 series of Mac Pro computers. This means that customers purchasing a new Mac Pro are no longer required to discard the standard GUI card and replace it with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 at extra cost.

While the ATI Radeon HD 5770 and NVIDIA Quadro 4000 cards are the latest combination of graphics cards for Resolve, the highest GPU performance for Resolve continues to be the combination of NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 (GUI) and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 (GPU). Unfortunately the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 is no longer available but owners of this card will continue to enjoy the highest GPU performance in Resolve.

This guide documents which combinations of GUI and GPU cards can be used with each other and in which slots they should be installed.

Other new additions to the guide include the dimensions and weights for the three panels, which comprise the Resolve Control Surface, as well as connection diagrams for the Mac Pro and MacBook Pro configurations.

We hope this guide proves useful and please let us know if there is anything you would like added or changed in the guide.

Finally, the DaVinci Resolve Keyboard Shortcuts for Mac are now available for download as a PDF.

Peter, this mean that GTX285 is faster than Quadro 4000?

In our tests, GT120 and GTX285 is still the fastest combination.... better still with a Red Rocket.

What about a nvidia gtx 285 and a rocket? Do I need 2 nvidia cards? I have also an ATI Radeon HD 4870 on my macpro.

We are working with RED on the SDK for RC2 and RG2 and expect to have support soon. In the meantime, yes Resolve supports rocket from the 7.0 release in September. Please refer to the configuration guide for details.

Is the GTX285 and nvdia GT120 also faster than Quadro Fx 4800?? Wouldn't make sense, how about cuda cores??

I thought the 285 was just gonna hold us over until the 4000 card arrived but it looks like we'll stick with it for a while.

The GTX 285 is a tad faster than the Quadro FX 4800, both under Resolve and PPro. But make sure it has good cooling!

Hy Peter and everybody

I have a Resolve on a 2009 macpro, Quadro FX 4800, Gforce GT 120, Decklink Extreme and a RedRocket. Slots 1 & 2 are 16x and 3 & 4 are 4x. Following the Config. guide I installed the FX4800 on slot 1, GT120 on slot 2, Decklink on slot 3 and the Rocket on slot 4. When I use RedCineX, it states that the Rocket should be on a 8x slot, and it can`t do full resolution 4K playback. In Resolve, in a 2k timeline, it works fine in half res but not in full res.
Just to know, is there a system performance issue if I put the Rocket on slot 2 (16x) and the GT120 on slot 4 (4x)?

Thanks!

The GT 120 does NOT need to be in slot #2. That is where you should put your Red Rocket.

ok! so I wait for the 4000 I don't have to ebay-around to find a 285 lost to be found? Also, the fx4800 is much more expensive right? What's the point here? Is it better for other apps at least? WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS EXPENSIVE CARD NOW?!

:/

thanks!!!
