Has there been anyone backing out on there reservation? And how does it work is that number sold or is it moved up to the next reservation holder, I guess that could get sticky.

I think i've heard of one person publicly talking about backing out. You just need to contact RED, get your deposit back and the camera goes back into RED stock for various purposes.

I have talked about needing to turn in my number, but it's looking more like that wont be the case. I hope not. There's some great footage starting to surface and I've been waiting for a long time.....don't want to have to back out.

I heard a rumor about unwanted reserved cameras being retained by RED for a rental/leasing side of the business but haven't seen anything formally about it.

i am certain that is not the case based on my extensive discussions with them regarding rentals. they are in the business of making cameras, it is our job to rent them out. they will refer people wanting to rent, to us, if we prove we are worthy.

Some time ago, Jim mentioned that refused reservations would become part of a pool of demo / loaner units. I don't recall him saying anything about rentals. If someone's camera goes down on a shoot, I'm sure that people would like for Red to be able to send out a loaner while any necessary repair takes place on the original unit.

That's good to know. I must have misunderstood the thread or it was truly just a rumor.

I wouldn't be surprised if more reservation holders back out on their order or at least suspend it. It seems the RED ONE is still undergoing changes that are more than just the firmware. I would be hesitant to "cash in" if I were a holder right now. Tell me I'm wrong about this...

I thought about ending it all.....then saw the light, footage, stills and everything else coming out about this camera. I was looking at a situation where after buying the camera it would have just collected dust from lack of use, down to a contractual issue with my longterm client, however that has now been resolved so it should be plain sailing. Plain sailing that is once we have a fully featured little bundle of joy. Fingers crossed that will not be too far off now.

Cheers,
Mark.

I'm still in two minds about it. Really for me it hinges on the EVF being in fully working order when my camera comes up. For me to afford the outlay I need it to be as complete as possible when I get it, so that it can start to get out and work as soon as possible. Sadly it's now looking like just before Xmas which isn't ideal.

Really do want the camera though. Pretty much every project I shoot personally would benefit me by being shot on Red. And I've throroughly enjoyed the ride so far, the icing would be getting to shoot

I think weīre kinda luky to receive our camera not until April or March next year. I would love to have it earlier but my hope is that by that time all the problems have been solved and we will have a fully working system at our hands. A cam without working EVF would mean a heavy limitation for me.

Firmware or hardware changes to upgrade will not make much difference if you can and you are willing to, ship the camera back.
I rather get the camera as it is now play and learn with it and then once all the bugs are out I do the one shot upgrade even if I have to ship the camera back to RED.
There is plenty to play with and learn and what is missing will be just easy incremental learning curve. Also this forum is now full of advice about early camera use and later, you may not see so much discussion about it when you start your playing with the camera.

Later on you may see guys discussing how to invest money they all made on delivering lightning fast all these projects.

Kinda funny to read posts of the 'must have features' before I can take delivery. Truth be said, RED is the prettiest girl in town. Otherwise we wouldn't all standing in line to ready to pay the admission price. The camera as it stands now, is more than production worthy. Everything else from this point forward is gravy.

Truly, it's a race to get up the learning curve. If you haven't got your RED yet, I'd suggest you rent one. My knowledge of the camera is 2X from just one day of shooting and trying to post.

Does anyone know if you do choose to delay taking receipt of the camera until more features are enabled, do they hold that camera for you so you can pick it up the minute you decide it's ready?

I think itīs funny how some people, especially on another (not to be mentioned) forum guessed that a very low percentage of the reservation holders would actually take delivery - now those having early numbers realise they are sitting on a potential gold mine, and it seems the number of people taking delivery is close to 100%...

This is very good question. Jim mentioned that we will have option to wait till all (define all) features will be enabled.
I guess, if you choose to wait, your delivery will be queued again with all other, waiting for all feature people, once camera firmware will be called 1.0?? GA (General Availability)
Afterall, this maneuver will not delay anybody, high up in the S/N queue at all.

I still think as the numbers go into the thousands, the number of people not taking their cameras will increase. I think of the first 400 or so it will be a very very low percentage - but even then, maybe a few percent.

Some people who ordered simply will not be able to pay for the whole package when it comes time - and as the numbers hit 500+, the resale market will slow, the rental markets will fill... etc.

Jim's a good business man obviously - I guarantee you he has figured out some projections that would account for an increasing reservation cancellation
